New Penmap for Android version 11.3.0.2050 available

By Thomas Schucker posted 08-02-2021 08:24

We have released a new Penmap for Android version.

All customers working with Penmap for Android must upgrade to the latest version, in order to continue operation after August 31st 2021.
In general the new sign in process will run via a Web Browser.

New Feature

  • New sign in process for Penmap for Android
A freemium user has now to create a free Trimble ID (TID) to be able to use Penmap in freemium mode. In the near future Penmap will offer two-factor authentication for better user data and application security.
Check the support bulletin looking at Trimble Penmap community for more details.
  • Penmap for Android offers several new manager dialogs that enable better management and processing of data in the field.
    • Point Manager
The point manager  lists all points with different attributes. Also there are possibilities to zoom to, edit or stake out a specific point directly from this dialog.
    • Layer Manager
The layer manager lists all layers, allows to switch on and off and allows to change the display color of a layers geometry. Check the support bulletin looking at Trimble Penmap community for more details.
    • GIS Manager:

The GIS manager lists all GIS data entries in a table and allows editing.
It is possible now to create GIS tables with type “non spatial” and create relationships between tables. For spatial GIS data entries there is a zoom to option.

  • Non spatial GIS features and GIS feature relationships
It is now possible to define non spatial GIS features and GIS feature relationships with Penmap Project Manager when creating a database template. Data for these tables and relationships can be collected during the normal collection workflow. There is a separate documentation available for the Fit For Purpose Land Administration context, which describes this in general.
  • Penmap for Android now offers several tools that allow the user to easily edit and manipulate graphics and nodes in the field. This new functionality offers new flexibility to work with graphical data in Penmap for Android.
    • Move node
This method allows you to move nodes to a different position using GNSS measurement, cogo functions, snap or free position. All the connected lines are also adjusted.
    • Split line
This method allows integrating a point to collect into an existing polygon or polyline feature (2 nodes and a line between) using GNSS measurement, cogo functions, snap or free position.
    • Replace
This method allows to replace parts of geometry from a polygon or polyline using GNSS measurement, cogo functions, snap or free position. Select a polygon or polyline (min. 3 nodes) and add new nodes between first and last nodes to define the new geometry.
  • Trimble R12i GNSS system support
Penmap for Android is now supporting the Trimble R12i GNSS system including the Trimble TIP tilt compensation. The receiver always works in Tilt mode, meaning you don’t have to level the pole vertically. But you have to take care about pole bias adjustment. Penmap offers an integrated workflow via Trimble Mobile Manager for that adjustment.
Please check out the related support bulletin separately.
  • Google Maps navigation integration
Find the way to your Penmap data with the Navigate to position function. This new method can be found in the mapview context menu Navigate to position. This will open Google Maps app and navigate you to the feature selected. Tap&Hold to the feature you want to navigate to and make sure that Google Maps is installed on your Android device.
  • Fit for Purpose LA enhancements
There are a lot of enhancements for Fit For Purpose (FFP) workflows integrated in this version. FFP is about collecting land parcels and land rights, tenure data. It’s possible to work consistently with LADM or STDM models.  Also a template is attached to check out what's possible especially for tenure  data collection for these environments. The new template “Trimble FFP English” follows STDM model rules. Check out the separate documentation for Fit For Purpose.

Enhancements

  • Database templates:
Penmap for Android in conjunction with Penmap Project Manager offers 4 additional Penmap generated values which can be used to auto-fill GIS fields. Set up with Penmap Project Manager data fields under Advanced Type | Penmap Generated
    • Point number (only for point features)
    • Collection method (only for point features)
    • iFeature code
    • Project name
  • Time dependent transformation enhancements
There are a lot of changes to enhance time dependent transformation possibilities for a wider range of datum's.
In most cases this works out of the box without further settings.
There are also notifications during the measurement workflow if there is no support for the datum selected.
    • WMS: Improve handling of special WMS provider (hkvandgis)
    • WMS: New Belgium services added to the default settings
      NGI, SPW, AIV
    • Translations: enhancements for different languages
  • Update coordinate system database to the latest version
If a new database gets released, Penmap automatically downloads that in the background.
  • WMS: Changed maximum Zoom Level as default to 21 (it's a resolution around up to 10m)
  • GNSS Button: Correction hub fallback
A blue bubble with the number of satellites on the button indicates that a fallback correction service is used (e.g. RTX instead of NTRIP). If the bubble has a green color the correction service from in Penmap defined standard service is received.

  • Trimble Connect project upload from the app:
After uploading a Penmap project to Connect, reports, pictures and sketches are unpacked to the result folder of the project.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed: Trimble correction hub fallback to RTX workflow got improvements
  • Fixed: Catalyst on demand subscription was not recognized correctly from Penmap. In some cases it was necessary to close Penmap and start it again to get it working. This was related to a change when activating the “On demand” feature in Trimble Mobile Manager.
  • Fixed: Working with multiple iFeature at the same time does not allow me to switch to a different one.
  • Fixed: Working in landscape mode does not show all buttons and dialog elements on a couple of phones.
  • Fixes that Tap&Hold is no longer working after cancel an edit node process
  • Fixed: On average measurements the real epoch count is not stored correctly
  • Fixed an issue with map orientation after GNSS connection (map rotates about 180°)
  • Fixed: Improve WMS tile loading when not oriented north
  • Camera: Fixed an issue with compass orientation using camera
  • Verify: Fixed verify point won't take over new location at second verification
  • Minor bug fixes
