GENIO .mos or .txt export?

  • 1.  GENIO .mos or .txt export?

    Posted 07-21-2019 21:41

Is there anyway to export a GENIO .mos or .txt file from TBC? This is still a deliverable format for as constructed survey for some state departments here.

Use the Trimble Access road Strings export - this is a GENIO file

    Thanks Alan,

How do I export surveyed as con points and strings as a road corridor?

To Genio you mean or some other format?

The trimble access strings I think should be able to export the strings only - and or Alignments - I need to see what the UI allows - will do that shortly and come back

    Yes, as Genio.

Do you have a dataset example so I can see what is possible?

    Alan,

Below are Dropbox links for a survey in dwg format, and the Genio exports using GeoCivil.

    Alan,

Created a dummy alignment and corridor.

    - Referenced points and strings - exports alignment only

    - Generated surface from points and strings and referenced - exports alignment only

    - Added surface using corridor surface template instructions - exports 'nodes' at left/right surface extents and alignment only

Try creating a Corridor Model with just a couple of lines and then add the

other lines using Add / Remove Surface Members - my guess is that it still

wont work however - I did do some work on this a while back for an Oz

contractor but I cannot remember the outcome - I did write it up on the

Forum though - I will take a look and send you a link on what I did.

The help topic called "Export Road Files (.crd, .dc, or .rxl) from Corridors" will give you some information on the Trimble Access (.crd) files.

I don't have a corridor, only as constructed survey points and strings. There is no field in the export to select objects other than a corridor.

I'm sorry, Rob. Without an alignment and corridor, I don't see how you can export what you need using either of the Trimble Access road exporters.

Here is a link to the post that I made last December on Access Road Strings

The Geospatial Guys are the ones taking care of this - while I have given them input I have no idea what they are going to do / have done to resolve this - they said it was a priority for their September(ish) release but I haven't heard anything more. I can try on our side to leverage this to get a GENIO Export of String data that works, but I think I will be told that it is a Geospatial problem

I am also wanting this option as an export, some local authorities  here in the UK still ask for this format.

im sure its been requested for years!

I am getting this looked at - maybe by PUG APAC in a weeks time we can have something working

Not yet Rob but I am looking into it to see if I can get something done

    You really just need

    1) points as P strings(3D)

    2) lines as Strings (3D)

    3) Alignments as strings (12D)

    And that is it right?

Do we need to assign a “model Name” or just use the project name

    Anything else?

    Looks good.

Adopting export file name as "model name" would work for us. Using project name becomes restrictive.

Maybe also an option to export surface triangulation as '0' strings.

    Posted 11-08-2019 01:40

How do you want to handle string naming and numbering

    1) you will use appropriate coding directly

    2) you want us to truncate codes to 4 char on export

    3) you need a code map that looks up current code and maps to a target code and then we apply string numbers ie a code Verge could be V and then 001 is added based on the number of Strings of that type

Tree becomes PTR and we add 1 for the Point String?

    Alan S

its been a while since I've looked at the file output/format but if I recall that sounds about right.

Although it would be desirable to use existing codes and get these converted into the correct ones required upon export? ( but we could tweak and existing code list to suit)

So option 3 looks the best! and yes add the P for points

    thanks

    Posted 11-12-2019 15:59

    Alan S,

Option 3 is what we are after also, but also option to map from attribute (or layer) as we will need to define on feature attributes and not the code directly. Since we layer based on critical attributes anyhow, mapping from layer would probably be simplest, and is how we have mapped from Terramodel, Geocivil and 12D in the past.

Mapping options similar to the old Terramodel map file would be good. This allows the user to define what to where, including options to reference existing code/layer name, fixed name, auto incrementing, etc (take the onus of you). Below is the definition from TM. Wouldn't need fields 6 & 7, but an option to export surface triangulation as strings would be good.

    # The fields are as follows:
    #
    # 1) Record Name Filter
    # (Wildcard characters are allowed e.g. Record Name ES*)
    # DEFAULT is special keyword used to specify default values
    #
    # 2) Number of characters to use from the Record Name
    # (0 = Don't use the Terramodel Record Name
    # Up to 8 characters can be used (4 for main code, 4 for subcode)
    #
    # 3) Number of characters to use from the Record's layername
    # (0 = Don't use the Record's layername
    #
    # 4) Fixed name
    # (Only used if previous two values are 0. Doesn't use Record Name or Record layername)
    #
    # 5) Auto increment (OFF, ON)
    # (If ON, an incremented string number is suffixed to the string code,
    # right-justified and filled to three spaces
    # If OFF, no string number is created in the GENIO file and
    # MOSS applies its own string numbering during import)
    #
    # 6) Block height (NONE, INSERT, MODEL)
    # (NONE, block height is -999 Null
    # INSERT, block height is from insertion point
    # MODEL, block height is interpolated from DTM layer in field 7)
    #
    # 7) Name of DTM layer if field 6 is MODEL
    #
    #Examples:
    #ES*,0,0,EP,ON,NONE
    #DEFAULT,0,0,S,ON,MODEL,POINTS

Yes, we have had some councils and other customers asking for this "survey" content GENIO export. One customer had a program built to run on their TSC3s to export in this format in the way they need. Which of course is a separate issue to TBC.

I just created a TML to export Moss entities.  It's still under development but I believe it's ready for testing and should support a majority of your needs.

TBC TMLs (same concept as Terramodel TMLs) are a fairly new addition to TBC, a little over a year.  The best way to find out what TMLs are available is to download run TMLStatus from the Rockpile Solutions website. Trimble uses Rockpile Solutions to host their TMLs as well.

If you are interested in trying out the Moss Export or any other Rockpile Solutions, install and run TMLStatus. Then let me know what Rockpile Solutions TMLs you would like to run.  The Trimble TMLs are free to use.

I have been rather busy since new year- where is the Genio export currently at?  can you please update and i can see if i can help with data

Attached is s typical spec for a local council spec ( although i think they are outdated over here with this format!)

    Hi Peter,

    Thanks for posting this TML

I have alot of clients in Western Australia who require .mos export as a deliverable to our roads authority (MRWA)

I cannot see this TML either on the Rockpile Website or on TML Status v2.30

Can you please make this available?

    Thanks,
