Is there any development in Trimble Connect regarding VR?

We own HTC Vive VR-goggles and are very interested in using them with Trimble Connect

I saw that there is a Trimble Connect version for Microsoft Hololens and was wondering if something similar was possible with our HTC Vive

    Hello Michael,

The Mixed Reality Team's vision is to be hardware agnostic with all of our software. While that doesn't guarantee compatibility, we do have active partnerships with all major MR/VR/AR vendors and are developing on all products that we see use cases for. As of today, Trimble Connect is only available on Microsoft HoloLens but we are exploring other products.

    Hi Fern,

    Thanks for your reply.

So there will be no possibility to use trimble connect with htc vive in near future, did I get this right?

    regards,

    Michael

    Hi Michael,

Not necessarily. We have many projects underway on different platforms, but until publicly announced we're unfortunately limited in what we can acknowledge. Please keep an eye on mixedreality.trimble.com for new developments.

Thanks, Ryan!! (Vive is just so much easier to use in some applications, compared with Hololens)

Hi Ryan, Thanks for your answer.

Might be worth a try with SYMMETRY alpha.

But as far as I read, this will only be possible with *.skp files...

    regards

    Mike

Yes, SYMMETRY alpha currently only supports *.skp files.

Please do give it a try and let me know how you find it.

    Hi Ryan,

Didn't have time to try it yet, but:

Support of *.ifc Files would be of enormous benefit for us!

Ist there any plan to do so??

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hi Mike

We've finalized development on SYMMETRY v1.0 and will be ready to release during December 2018. We've in fact already released in Japan as of October 2018.

We have yet to include support for *.ifc file format though it is high on the development agenda. I can't give a definitive date as to when we will include it within SYMMETRY, but when we're ready we'll announce on our website, and I'll be sure to update this thread as well.

As @Sven Jung mentioned below, *.ifc files can be imported into SketchUp and loaded into SYMMETRY.

We will include support for *.las and *.laz file formats early in 2019. Though unrelated to *.ifc file format, this will allow people working with point clouds to import those files directly into SYMMETRY with an extended VR toolset that allows users to easily move within large point cloud models and import an additional SketchUp model to overlay on the point cloud.

If you'd like to try SYMMETRY for free for 30 days, send me a direct message and I'll share a free trial.

Thanks for your interest, and stay tuned for more updates!
    Ryan

I tried it with a Acer AH101, you can import the ifc`s in Sketchup an save it as .skp.

If you do something with unity you have to convert to .fbx first, so symmetry is the easiest way for me at the moment,.
