A new version of the Trimble Catalyst™ Service is now available. This updates add GLONASS support to the software-defined Catalyst GPS receiver.  The addition of support for GLONASS satellite data alongside GPS and Galileo in the position solution provides significant improvement in convergence performance and utility of the service, particularly in partially obstructed sky view conditions (for example near trees and buildings).

This update is free and immediately available to all Catalyst users, simply by updating to the latest versions of Catalyst apps. For most users, this process is handled automatically by your Android device if your Google Play Store app is configured to automatically update to the latest versions of apps as they become available.

To check that you have the latest versions installed on your device:

Trimble Mobile Manager can be downloaded from the Google Play Store here.

Trimble Catalyst Service can be downloaded from the Google Play Store here.

Catalyst-ready applications that use the Trimble Catalyst SDK will need to be updated to take full advantage of this update. Check with your software vendor for when an update will be available.

Catalyst is a tri-band receiver. The first band is used to track GPS L1 and Galileo E1 signals. The second band is used to track GPS L2C signals. With this update, the third band will either track GLONASS or Trimble RTX via L-band. GLONASS is therefore only available in 'connected' usage, where GNSS corrections are able to be delivered to the receiver over a mobile data connection. In offline usage, Catalyst will use the third channel for RTX corrections over L-band.

Trimble Penmap for Android fully support the new Trimble Catalyst GLONASS support and is avaiable in Google Playstore.
