The slope arrows for a surface are super useful and something that I use all the time. Sometimes I will keep these on for deliverable but usually I will turn these off because they can flood the screen. Yes you can turn down the length but I like to keep mine at 1.5 ft for overall analysis of issues of a site. 

Would it be possible to get a direction arrow for surface slope direction within Smart Text? This would be very useful for spot grades in areas such as ADA parking stalls.  #enhancementrequest

While you have you slope arrows turned on you could label the Slope of the surface using Smart Text and a Leader with Arrow and then draw the Arrow Leader to indicate the slope direction .... 

Very true but for design work you would manually have to keep updating these. Hence some of the issues we get from engineers with things not always matching.

This is a good example where the  math function in smart text could come into play because you could use a combination or "-" and "<" or ">" to create an arrow for direction "<-" or "->" than you could use if/than statements to change which <> to use and delineate the direction of the slope. 

We don't currently have a way to change the orientation of text dynamically

in relation to e.g. Slope Direction - however I have seeded the idea with

development and we will see what comes back

I don't think that it is a smart Text thing - maybe there is an additional style of Leader which is a Slope Arrow that updates dynamically with model changes - one for the future maybe
