constant disconnection from field maps

  • 1.  constant disconnection from field maps

    Good day,

I am hoping that someone can assist me. I am having some serious difficulties with my Handheld device out in the field. I am constantly being signed out of field maps on my Trimble TDC6000. There are no breaks in the internet connection out in the field as it has been tested and results show it remains stable as confirmed by our IT department. We use a FortiClient connection for authentication and there is no issue there either as the connection also remains stable.

Everything was working fine in the initial stages but a few months ago this has been a constant pain because I have to sign in every few minutes, sometimes its lasts seconds. I have updated all applications and yet still the problem still exists. The constant request for signing in online happens for field maps and this unit is used on a daily basis. A DA2 device is also used in addition to this unit, and it does not require signing in so frequently which means that the issue is with field maps.

Any assistance to help me dealing with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Darton,

You are probably not configuring things incorrectly in TMM or Field Maps or Both. Currently, if on the latest version of TMM and FM, you setup TMM ONCE and never open it again (unless using on-demand hours). Then, in FM settings, set the location provider to the DA2 and supply antenna height. Lastly, you'll have to setup your transformation via the profile. This depends on your locale and is a one time setup. Finally, ESRI FM will invoke TMM and the order of operation after setup is as follows:

    1. turn on DA2
    2. after about 10-15 seconds, open FM
    3. Once accuracy is achieved, tap blue plus in bottom right
    4. rinse and repeat.

The key is to NOT connect in TMM after you've set it up ONE time. Even if using on-demand hours, you would ONLY open TMM to start the hour while staying DISCONNECTED from the receiver in TMM. Let ESRI FM manage the connection.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Field Maps? You'll have the pleasure of having to recreate your Location Profiles. ;)

We had this same problem a while back.

@Zach Edwards - maybe your response was intended for a different thread? Opening and closing TMM should not cause Field Maps to not store the authentication token.

Paul, nope. This was intended for this thread. Field maps will invoke TMM. Therefore, you should never explicitly open TMM in this process. It has been this way for years. In the next release of field maps, you'll be able to open both and will be connected in both. That will come sometime in August. That being said, you could technically open TMM, but you would not want to connect to the receiver.

2c.  Assuming the Darton Charles you are doing nothing else in your procedures using Field Maps on a DA2, we are also assuming your using TMM, and the app has been refreshed.  I'm also assuming Android.
A few other things, as this dance between mobile device (OS), TMM, FM and ONLINE token with subscription to DA2, Token with TMM and FM all must work in concert (regrettably so complicated, you are not alone as this is somewhat insane don't you think?),  suggest in addition.

Check your TDC Android version.  Update.
Force stop TMM or delete and re-install it.
Field Maps - I would, as Paul suggests, uninstall, instead of FORCE STOP the App.
If you need authentication double check with your IT if anything in your PORTAl (this may actually be the root cause) has been raised or issues in your organization - simply ask around with others about their experience and tokens related to your AGOL/Portal account.
