Project permissions

On our account we have multiple admins.  In the past if I created a project the other admins could add themselves .  There doesn't appear to be a way to do this any longer.  Has this changed?  Can we change it back?  I know that I can add each other user manually but this work flow has worked well in the past and we have a large amount of projects I would need to go back and edit.

    Hi Skyler,

There is a recent change to this workflow with the release of the new tier of WorksManager, WorksManager Pro. Check out the published blog article on this topic along with the workaround. We've heard some great feedback the past 2-3 days that the anticipated timeline we've provided in the blog article is not meeting customer and dealer expectations. Our engineering team are taking a hard look at the options and we hope to be able to shorten it.

    Hi Nicole,

I appreciate the fast response.  We will add each other for the next few months until self add has been reinstated.  Thank you.

The ability to for a user to add themselves or remove themselves from a project is a big feature for us.  At this time, it looks like the only person that can admin users for the project is the project creator.  At a minimum admins should be able to add users to the project, but that is not possible with this new revision.

That is a good point Matt.  We have had a few other platforms that function this way and it works OK until someone is on vacation or leaves the company and then you end up loosing data or having to recreate it.  Having 2 tiers of Admins would work fine also platform admins who could access anything and project admins who could only create and edit projects.

I'm curious if there has been any progress on this.  This continues to be a bit of a friction point for us.  The original estimate was 2-3 months and that way given back in January.

This needs to be addressed. I'm going through my account making sure my team members are added to my sites. Since they can't do it on their own, even though they have admin permissions! I'm now getting this error.

I'm on vacation next week, and the fact that this functionality was taken away makes zero sense.  Not getting these vibes from WorksManager!

    Waking this one back up.

I have a team member on vacation, and I'm currently listed as a Project Viewer on a project he created, which means I can't push files.

Our normal workflow is to make all team members Project Managers, but occasionally this gets missed. The fact that I can't make myself a Project Manager is mind-boggling.

I'm the Account Admin. What's the point of assigning admin permissions if I can't control what's happening at the project level?

This is becoming a real issue, especially when someone is out of the office and I need to keep projects moving.

Can someone please explain how an Account Admin is supposed to handle this situation?

They were actually able to do something to get this feature working again on my account.  We have been using it successfully for a few months.  You do have to go my accounts then click on your admin account and then projects.  You can't do it through the my projects tab.

I am a dealer, and since I can no longer use this feature when troubleshooting issues with customers, each troubleshooting session is taking much longer. As a result, this is incurring significant costs and leading to a loss of customer trust. I would appreciate it if you could restore this feature as soon as possible.

They have to have the little down arrow next to them.  Before they fixed my account they were missing.

This has been an issue for a long time.  As far as I know, the only person that can make a project manager is the person who created the site.  Any user with Admin level permissions should be able to make any changes.  I'm put in a bind all the time because of this.

    Thank you, Skyler.

Sounds like I need Trimble to fix my account.

When I'm assigned as a Project Manager, I have the option to change myself to Project Viewer (which is useless). However, when I'm assigned as a Project Viewer, I don't have the drop-down option to change my role back to Project Manager.

    Trimble, please fix my account!

Crazy idea: fix everyone's account or explain the reasoning behind why this functionality was taken away. This is creating an unnecessary headache for something that should be simple for an Account Admin to manage.

That is how mine used to look.  They look like this now.

I had assumed they had fixed everyone's account when they fixed mine.  I think the forum on here is a good idea but have noticed if you have an issue they email you, which make sense as we are all dealing with a fair amount of data we don't really want to share, then the posts don't really seem to get a resolution.  It would be nice if they could mark them solved in someway so that other people reading the post know there is a solution.  For this one they probably could have posted something like "This feature should be functional on your account.  If this feature isn't functional reach out to ____@trimble.com and we will get it working for you".

This feature is expected to become available around Q4 or early Q1. In the meantime, please contact your dealer so they can submit a support case to activate the self-invite feature for your account.
