We are looking at pushing out Trimble Connect through SCCM and was looking for some guidance. Thank you!
Follow these instructions to get the msi files:
-Download the installer, named here TrimbleConnectSetup.exe
-Create folder for the prerequisites, the import plugins, using here C:\Temp\plugins
-Open command prompt and go to folder where you have the installer
-Run command TrimbleConnectSetup.exe /aC:\Temp\plugins
(Note: no space after /a command)
-During the installer wizard you need to give folder to where it will extract the main msi file.
Hopefully this helps.
Just to add to Marko's post:
I used orca to open msi properties and generate mst for transforms. In it, i dropped the desktop icon row.
I was looking for additional settings like assigning file type to Trimble Connect but i could not find it.
However one line in Property had the answers - SecureCustomProperties :USERNAME;COMPANYNAME;ISX_SERIALNUM;SUPPORTDIR;INSTALLDIR;LAUNCHPROGRAM;ISACTIONPROP1;DOTNETVERSION40FULL;ISFOUNDNEWERPRODUCTVERSION;DOTNET4VERSIONNUMBER;IFCFILETYPE;IFCZIPFILETYPE;IFXMLFILETYPE;DWGFILETYPE;DGNFILETYPE;DXFFILETYPE;STPFILETYPE;STEPFILETYPE;IGESFILETYPE;IGSFILETYPE;XMLFILETYPE;TRPFILETYPE;IFCEXIST;TRBEXIST;DGNEXIST;TRBFILETYPE;SKPFILETYPE;SKPFILETYPE1;RFAFILETYPE1;RFAEXIST;RVTEXIST;
So i combined mst and msi parameters in batch file, zipped the extracted installation, added 7za and it runns like a charm
Batch file :
"%~dp07za.exe" x "%~dp0TC22.214.171.124.7z" -aoa -o"%~dp0"msiexec /i "%~dp0TC126.96.36.199\TrimbleConnect.msi" /qn IFCFILETYPE=1 TRANSFORMS="%~dp0TrimbleConnect.mst"
You can also just use the exe file through SCCM, that's the way we do it. We use only this command:
"TrimbleConnectSetup-188.8.131.52-x64.exe" /s /v/qb
It works like a charm. Havent seen any problems.
That is true, you can use exe and provide the setting in a batch or a powershell install script.
It will also check and upgrade prerequisites for you.
However i feel more in control creating separate applications for prerequisites, msi transforms and parameters. Also when there is anew version it is more clear what visual c++ redist package or plugin version is required.
you may say its more complicated, but it feels better to test it all, even the prereq. stuff - if it is not interfering with the other apps installed across company pcs
