For paving designs can we validate the surface in BC-HCE prior to actual paving? I've attached a paving spec example.
The BC-HCE IRI Reporting Process allows you to run validation on pavement surface models (similar to running the physical tests on the final surfaces constructed) and it will deliver you back Roughness Indices that you can work with to improve the surface model in areas where the IRI values become close to or out of tolerance. You will of course find that if you build the Corridor Model for the Pavement and then Densify the surface to get the accuracy you need to meet the paving specs that your surface model will give Tremendous IRI values that all you have to do now is construct it .... If only it was that easy.
The attached docs were some exercises that I ran for some people in Europe earlier this year that should be of assistance - Apologies that I do not have time this week to read the specs you enclosed - I can try to find time to read that over the next few weeks - however in our tests we have found that this is a great way to show how Model Quality will drive Paving Quality and take the Risk of failing IRI testing after construction almost entirely off the table - Provided your Paver is in good shape, that you have a good 3D system on it and that your Paving crew understands how to use the system (or have a Trimble specialist on hand to assist them) you should never have an issue bringing home the project with fantastic results.
