Is there a simple way in TBC to create a string along the intersection of two surfaces? i.e. intersection or Cut/Fill line of a flat plane with a topo surface?
Use contour at elevation to create a 0 contour
we just added a change that allows you define only a Cut or only a full Slope in the new Sideslope command and the Corridor template that intersects with a second surface - that second surface now no longer needs to be above or below the Hinge line as it does today (because we need to know whether it is a Cut or a full condition) but if you define only a full Slope to second surface it will project downwards till it hits the second surface.
we have also added the ability to do a sideslope to a Material layer in a Corridor model - so you can construct a material layer for the "second surface" and project to it within the same corridor - that will also help this scenario
Yes, but not directly. You can create a cut/fill map between the two surfaces. Then check the cut/fill properties and make sure the daylight line is set to display; that daylight line is the intersection of the surfaces, which is also the "0" contour. So to extract that line you have to make contours, either full contours or quick contours. And all the 0.00 elevation contours are your intersections. Or just trace over the cut/fill daylight line with a new polyline or linestring if you only need a rough location.

I was working down the same lines yesterday with the Cut Fill map approach but didn't think about the contours. I was hoping it would be possible to explode the daylight line and convert to linestring but no luck so ended up tracing over the daylight line as suggested. Unfortunately it's not possible to snap to this line so it was a zoomed in guesstimate with elevates snapped to the surface.
This intersection of surfaces would be a good feature to add as a macro for future. This is something we use lots when doing earthworks models and rough volume calcs without having to build corridors etc.

Contours are exploadable so what I usually do is the cut fill map then create contours at interval and choose the elevation of 0 (equals the intersection of the surfaces). From there you can convert the cad lines to line strings.
Nice tips Alan Sharp. Are that available in the upcoming version of TBC or in the current?
Do you think you could do a short video on your tips? I know I would very much like to see that, new to me, workflow.

Being able to tie to a material layer with the corridor side slope instruction is a huge improvement!
