Getting Catalyst DA2 data Z, Y and Z into QField

    Hi,

I'm using a Trimble Catalyst DA2 antenna with the 1 cm on demand subscription in combination with the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 5G Tablet running Android v 15. The tablet is dedicated to the Catalyst DA2 antenna and not used for other uses.

On this tablet, I run Trimble Mobile manager, working fine.

The tablet settings are set to override the internal GPS and use the Catalyst GPS instead.

I also run GeoMeet, a basic logging program for the Catalyst, dedicated to the Dutch situation, made by the importer of Trimble in The Netherland. This GeoMeet app is a beta version but working OK, storing X, Y and Z in a database.

Since I also work outside The Netherlands, I would also like to use QField. I have QField Version 3.6.8 Gondwana installed at the tablet.

The QField program does take the Catalyst data from the DA2 and visualizes it nicely on screen. In QGIS I created a layer with an X a Y and a Z value. In QGIS the properties-Attributes Form, I set the defaults for X as "x($geometry)", for Y as "y($geometry)" and for X as "z($geometry)". This I found on numerous websites. I transfer the layer to the tablet and open it in QField. When I add a point, the X and Y I nicely stored in the correct fields but the Z is not imported.

Does anyone have a sollution to this?

    Best wishes,

    Joep

Hi, I won't try to give you a definitive solution, but I did try QField and found it quite confusing. I highly recommend giving the free app SW Maps a try. It's absolutely fantastic - in my opinion, even better than many paid options.

You can choose your coordinate system and apply a geoid file if you need your elevations in orthometric height. I've used it with the DA2 and several other Bluetooth GNSS receivers, and it works flawlessly.

Just keep in mind: you still need to use Trimble Mobile Manager and set it as the mock location app in your phone's developer settings, do not connect directly to the antenna from within SW Maps.
