Hello TBC’ers! For those of you who are accustomed to training your own point cloud classification models, you may have wondered how to check what classification codes you can use for training your custom point clouds regions. TBC has a number of pre-trained classifiers such as outdoor (terrestrial), railway, etc. Each of these models classifies points into certain point regions. These regions have names and classification codes that are reserved for them. When you train your own classification model in TBC it is not recommended to use the reserved codes so that you do not overwrite existing classifications and maintain consistency in your projects. Below is a reference key for class numbers by pre-trained classification models in TBC, which range from 0 to 255.
Reserved Classification Numbers:
0 - Never classified (default)
1 - Unclassified (model tried to classify but failed to recognize the object)
2 - Ground
3 - Low vegetation
4 - Medium vegetation
5 - High vegetation
6 - Building
7 - Noise/ low points
8 - Model key-point
9 - Water
10 - Rail
11 - Road surface
12 - Overlap points
13 - Wire (guard)
14 - Power lines / wire (conductor)
15 - Transmission Tower, PowerTowers
16 - Rails/ wire (structure)
18 - Reserved for future use
65 - Poles
66 - Signs
71 - Stockpiles
73 - Steps
79 - Dividers
240 - Sleeper
241 - Ballast
TBC also reserves some other classification codes that usually do not pose problems in custom classification, however we do recommend avoiding them to avoid any potential problems so the classification numbers from 19 to 63, 69, 89 to 239, and 242 to 255 are free to use for custom classifications. You can also input numbers above 255, but it is important to note that these may not export properly.
To check which classification number is assigned to a region:
-
Find your desired point cloud region in the Project Explorer and open Properties.

-
The classification code can be found next to the “Classification” property.

-
To change this classification code, click on the number within the field and change it to your desired classification code.

Before assigning a classification code to a new point cloud region, refer to the reserved classification numbers to avoid using a predefined code. This ensures your custom models do not conflict with existing classifications in your point cloud projects.
