Hello TBC’ers! If you’ve ever needed to provide clear site context for field staking or machine control, this tip is for you! By generating individual linestrings from a corridor surface, you can enhance both horizontal and vertical context for your field team. This workflow will enable you to generate linestrings that help visualize the surface and give horizontal context to your field team so they can easily collect vertical information from the underlying surface.
To begin this workflow, select a surface you have created from an alignment and corridor and follow these steps:
-
Go to Project Explorer and choose the surface you want linework created for.
-
Right-click and select Properties.

-
Find “Save linework:” under the Corridor section in the Properties pane. Click on the “Save linework:” field and change it from “No” to “Yes” to enable linework creation.

-
This creates individual linestrings that are now visible within the Plan View and added to a new layer named after the surface they were extracted from. Properties work the same way as they would for any other linestring.

-
Export to your desired file type (.dxf is recommended). Easily select your linestrings by right clicking on the Surface Linework container nested under the corridor surface object in the Project Explorer and click “Select Members.”

Send your exported linework to your field team and you’re all set! Maximize your TBC experience and ensure smooth workflows by utilizing learning & support material most aligned with your needs and personal preferences.
