Hello TBC’ers! Today we’re talking about the new OrthoLane command in Trimble Business Center v2024.10! The OrthoLane command in TBC allows you to create orthomosaics from back-facing Mobile Mapping cameras. This is particularly useful for generating high-quality orthomosaic deliverables and performing detailed crack analysis. Let’s dive into the workflow for using this command.
Before you begin, it is worth noting that this command only works with data captured by a Trimble Mobile Mapping system with a back-facing camera as it is reliant on images from the back-facing camera, a generated point cloud, and a mobile mapping trajectory. Further, to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of this command, you will want to make sure that your point cloud is classified to identify a ground point cloud region and only the ground region is visible.
To begin this workflow, open a processed mobile mapping project in TBC and follow these steps:
-
Select the “Ortho Lane” command in the Mobile Mapping group under the Analysis tab to display the Ortho Lane command pane.

-
Click in the “Select Mobile Mapping run” field and then select the run you want to process in a graphic view or the Project Explorer.

-
- To select a smaller section of the entire run for processing, check the Precise selection check box and click in the Start field, and select a start and end point on the selected run from the graphic view.

-
You may optionally change the default Orthomosaic resolution. However, the default resolution of 0.005 m is recommended if you are performing crack analysis using the Inspect Pavement Condition command.
-
Click the Generate button. Your orthorectified images will be automatically uploaded to the project and can be found within the OrthoLane folder in the File Explorer.

These images can now be used for the automatic computation of crack dimensions using the Inspect Pavement Condition command.
