TBC Tip #207 - Create High/Low Point Command

By Cole Schubert EXT posted 07-21-2023 15:38

Hello TBC’ers! This week's tip focuses on an elevation measurement tool for point clouds. The tool is known as the “Create High/Low Point” and can tell you the minimum and maximum elevation of a whole dataset or individual point cloud regions. Once you have collected data in the field, there is no need to send out additional surveyors to get this information, as it can all be done in TBC!

  1. To start, click on the “Point Cloud” tab (1a), move your cursor to the “Measure” section (1b) and click on the “Create High/Low Point” button (1c).

  2. This will open up the “Create High/Low Point” pane where you can set the parameters you want to compute. These parameters are the highest and or the lowest point (2A), and the data sets you want to examine (for this example the entire data set will be used) (2B).

  3. With the right parameters set, click compute and your results will appear below, and on the visualization as two separate points labeled highest and lowest. In the results section, the actual elevation is the third value, as the first two indicate the point’s X and Y location.

  4. If you are satisfied with these results, click the save button in the “Create High/Low Point” pane to save the results directly into the visualization.

  5. That is all! This quick and easy workflow efficiently determines useful elevation data from any point cloud dataset and allows you to visualize it for easy reference when producing further deliverables.

You're all set! Maximize your TBC experience and ensure smooth workflows by utilizing learning & support material most aligned with your needs and personal preferences.

This is such a great & simple tool! This needs to be added to Trimble Real Works too! TRW should also have the advanced filtering tool for cleaning up/smoothing your extracted ground region.
