Hey TBC’ers! Happy belated American Thanksgiving! Have you ever wanted to create a surface from a reference file? Utilizing the new Create Surface from Reference File command, you can create a new reference surface based on the linked reference surface that is selectable and can be used to create surface-related CAD objects (e.g., surface contour lines). The resulting CAD objects display and are editable in your project even if the reference data is hidden or removed. This great, new feature was introduced in Trimble Business Center v5.60.
Follow the steps below to learn how to create a surface from a reference file.
- To create a new reference surface from a linked reference file that is selectable and can be used to create surface-related CAD objects, navigate to Surfaces and select Reference Surface to display the Create Surface From Reference File command pane.
- In the Create Surface From Reference File command pane, you can enter a name for the new reference surface, select the linked reference VCE project file, and select the linked reference surface on which you want to base the new surface. Then, click Apply.
- The new reference surface is created and a new Reference File Surface node is displayed in the Project Explorer (Surfaces > New Surface). Right-click New Surface (the new reference surface) and click Create Contours.
- You can choose your contour interval, color, contour line weight, distance between labels, and more. Then click OK to see the surface contour lines.
Here, the new contour lines are displayed in Cyan, with a contour interval of 1.000, contour line weight of 1.00 mm, and distance between labels of 16.823.
- In the View Filter Manager, you can turn off the reference file to better visualize the new surface. The resulting CAD objects display and are editable in your project even if the reference data is hidden or removed.
