TBC Tip #245: Mine Design Conformance Report

Hello TBC'ers! The latest release of Trimble Business Center (TBC) 2025.10 introduces a powerful new tool designed specifically for the mining industry: the Mine Design Conformance Report. This innovative feature empowers surveyors to evaluate mining extraction production in open-pit operations efficiently by comparing as-built surfaces with design surfaces. By identifying areas of overdig and underdig, surveyors can provide valuable insights to mine stakeholders, ultimately enhancing productivity and optimizing resource management.

First of all, make sure you have a mining project open in TBC.

  1. Select the Mining Design Conformance Report command

a. Go to the Mines tab. Navigate to Conformance > Mining Design Conformance Report.

  1. Select Design Surface and As-built Surface

a. Design Surface and As-built Surface will allow the tool to calculate areas of overdig and underdig.

  1. Create Cross-Section Path + Boundary

a. Using CAD tools, create a cross-section path that will help the tool define the direction of the cross-section to generate perpendicularly. The boundary will define the extents of those cross sections and the report volumes.

  1. Set your Cross-section interval and Delta Interval, Determine what layer the cross-sections should be stored, change overdig and underdig colors if desired.

a. The cross-section interval determines the distance between cross sections within your boundary.

b. The boundary will limit the report and cross-section to within the extents.

c. If you want your cross-section to be stored in a specific layer, select that within the tool.

d. Change the colors and scaling as needed.

e. If done, Click OK to run the tool

  1. Viewing the Mine Design Conformance Report and Conformance Surface

a. The Mine Design Conformance Report will have an overview page and a cross-section view with volumetrics.

b. In addition, the tool will generate a surface that shows the areas of overdig, within tolerance, and underdig to mining surveyors.

You’re all set! Here are some benefits of using TBC Mining Edition and the Mine Design Conformance Report:

Enhanced Visualization: Provides a clear visual representation of discrepancies between as-built and design surfaces, aiding in quick decision-making.

Improved Accuracy: Offers precise calculations of overdig and underdig areas and volumes, ensuring accurate reporting and resource management.

Increased Productivity: Streamlines the process of evaluating mining extraction, allowing surveyors to focus on optimizing production.

Stakeholder Communication: Facilitates effective communication with stakeholders by providing detailed reports on mining progress and discrepancies.

Risk Mitigation: Identifies potential risks associated with overdig and underdig, enabling proactive management and mitigation strategies.

The Mine Design Conformance Report is a game-changer for surveyors in the mining industry. It offers a comprehensive solution to evaluate and optimize open-pit mining operations. By leveraging this tool, surveyors can enhance productivity, improve accuracy, and facilitate effective communication with stakeholders, ultimately driving increased production and resource efficiency.
