Hey TBCers! If you have an underground mining project and you need to accurately determine the deviation between the planned design and the actual excavated surface captured by scan data, here is a critical tip for creating a Tunnel As-Built Mesh in Trimble Business Center.
1. Prepare the Data Views: Before extracting points, navigate to the Layer Manager and Enable Scans while simultaneously ensuring the existing Tunnel Mesh is Disabled.
2. Assign As-Built Points from Scan Data: Navigate to the Tunnels Tab – Reports Menu – Assign Tunnel Points. Click the drop down arrow and select “Assign As-Built Points”.
3. Select your Tunnel and Selection Method
◦ Select “Design” for your tunnel
◦ Enter your beginning and end station, and your station interval distance
◦ Define a suitable Search distance
◦ Assign a unique Points layer and Feature Code for easy identification.
◦ The process will run, extracting the as-built points based on stationing and the specified interval.
4. Isolate As-Built Points: Use the View Filter Manager to Isolate As Built Points.
5. Begin Creating As-Built Mesh: Navigate to Tunnels Tab – View Menu – Select As-Built Mesh Icon
6. Adjust Settings for Mesh Creation:

Specify the Name (e.g., Tunnel As Built)

Set the Classification to Excavation

Confirm the correct Tunnel and Tunnel Shape are linked.

Select All As Built Points from project view under "Members to form mesh”.
7. Click OK: Your As-Built mesh will be created
