Cannot select Trimble Mobile Manager as mock location app

  • 1.  Cannot select Trimble Mobile Manager as mock location app

Trying to connect Trimble R1 to my Android phone (Google Pixel 4a, Android 11). Enabled Developer Options, and tried to set mock locations to Trimble Mobile Manager app.  Still thinks it's set to GNSS Status, an app that still works but I removed it entirely to try to get Trimble Mobile Manager working.  Unsuccessful in providing any GPS locations to either ArcGIS Collector or Avenza; Esri tech support is trying to help with Collector, but no luck so far.  Both apps work fine with integrated GPS, and TMM sees coordinates just as GNSS Status did.

I'm not using Catalyst, but there were no other options on this Trimble Community.  Typical Trimble "support".  Esri tries really hard, in contrast.

    Hi Jerry,

I am glad to hear you are using Trimble Mobile Manager instead of GNSS Status. TMM includes the latest components that Collector and Field Maps have implemented. The only reason to keep GNSS Status installed would be if you are using the Collector Classic application. Collector Classic uses those older components. If you are on the latest version of Collector, please uninstall GNSS Status and select Trimble Mobile Manager as your Mock Location Provider using the Developer Options menu.

There are two methods of communicating with the R1 from Collector:

    Option 1 (preferred):

    1. Connect to the R1 from within Trimble Mobile Manager and configure the receiver for real-time configuration, GNSS Output, etc.  as you need.
    2. Disconnect from the receiver, and close TMM
    3. Open Collector and add the Trimble R1 as a new Location Provider
    4. Once added as a provider and selected as the active provider, open a web map.
    5. When the Web Map is being opened, using embedded Trimble components and your last TMM configuration, Collector will make its own direct connection with the R1. (TMM and Collector cannot be connected to the R1 at the same time via this method hence why you disconnect and close TMM in step 2)

    Option 2:

    1. Connect to the R1 from within Trimble Mobile Manager and configure the receiver for real-time configuration, GNSS Output, etc.  as you need.
    2. Within the Application Settings menu, turn on Location Sharing (requires TMM be set as the Mock location provider)
    3. Open Collector, and use the default 'Integrated' Provider option for your Location Provider. Do not add the R1 as a separate Location Provider.
    4. Open the web map of your choice.

Using Option 2, you will not receive as much GNSS metadata like Option 1. You will need to keep both applications open at the same time with Option 2 (with the R1 connected inside TMM). Lastly, you would also use the Option 2 configuration if using Avenza maps integrated receiver option. Trimble and Avenza have a partnership which allows you to connect directly with R1, R2, R10 and R12 GNSS receivers from within their mobile application similar to the Option 1 described above. More information on that integration is available here.
