How to start correction hour without internet connection

  • 1.  How to start correction hour without internet connection

Currently using a Trimble Catalyst for surveying. Most sites are remote and do not have any coverage. We can log in to the Trimble mobile manager fine without connection. We cannot start the hourly block of corrections though without an internet connection. Some of our sites will not have any coverage within an hours drive so it will not be possible to start the corrections with an internet connection then drive to the site.

Is there any way around this problem?

    Hi,

I'm sorry but there is no real workaround for this use case.

So On-Demand basically needs an active internet connection - starting a session is a direct call to the corresponding web service and there is no scheduler for this.

Also most users use it in combination with RTK (so e.g. Trimble Correction Hub as source) which requires an online connection anyhow.

For remote locations the best options are either a specific account which has e.g. e submeter subscription (not sure which accuracy you need) or a traditional receiver with RTX.

    Regards

    Hi Nico,

A potential solution would be to allow a user to 'check-out' a number of hours to create a local license on a device. The user could then start their use when offline, taking the hours from the local license in the same manner as the online system but choosing the local pool as the source. The hours would be removed from the online pool as if they had already been consumed at the time of 'check-out'. The local license could be set to have an expiry of something like 30 days, after which any unused hours are forfeited (unless an option to check unused hours back in could be implemented)

    Cheers,

    Scott

How do we check out hours?

Checking out hours or better starting an on-demand session requires the user to be part of an on-demand pool.

So the TID of the user must be inside an on-demand pool with a balance > 0.

If this is all ok the user can start TMM, select Catalyst as receiver type and then select Catalyst in the main menu. This will a) show you your current subscription and b) give you an on-demand tile which allows you to claim hours (so starting a session now).

    Hi Scott,

thanks for the input. We considered a scheduler at some stage - where you can basically pick a date/ time plus an amount of hours.

We then threw that idea away basically because the assumption was that on-demand will be used with RTK in 95% of all cases (that was the assumption). RTK requires an online connection - therefore the scheduler would only add complexity without benefit.

Plus it may be painful if you book a session and got stuck somewhere (traffic jam, other customer calling etc - the default things that happen when you want to get something done).

Your counting approach is hard to realize on a mobile device - so a counter you can 'trust' is not easy in this context.

I'll still put this request back into the backlog so its on the radar - we may have options here in the future.
