    A letter to Tekla's R&D or requirements department:

    Hello, I am a engineer from China who came into contact with Tekla software by chance.  At first, this software was used for the bidding quotation of steel structures (after all, Tekla's global market share in steel structures is a monopoly).  My evaluation of the software is its simple interface and powerful functionality, especially in terms of "view cutting surface", "view rendering", "manager", "ribbon customization", "selective copying", "reference point input", etc., which surprised me with its ease of use.  But if it's just praise, the global market share is enough to explain everything, there's no need for me to say too much.  I have been learning Tekla software for several months now. Based on my work experience, I have some ideas and suggestions that I hope to discuss with your company's R&D or requirements department.

    Here are a few simple suggestions.  1: After importing CAD drawings (segmentation), they are divided into separate drawings. Many design drawings are in single file format. If a separate drawing function can be added after importing DWG files, it would be very perfect (often CAD drawings are used as backgrounds to depict parts). 2: The conversion of CAD drawings into part functions, such as "axis grid", "column", "beam", "wall", "independent foundation", etc., automatically converted into parts in Tekla after recognition, will be revolutionary for improving efficiency. This is very important. The high market share of many software in China is closely related to the automatic conversion function. 3: Establishing the concept of "floors" requires floors to support the automatic conversion of parts, otherwise it is difficult to handle. 4: Concrete parts increase the amount of work required for attached components, such as formwork, independent foundation cushion layers, etc. After all, they are interdependent and closely integrated.  5: There is no doubt about the flexibility, openness, and powerful functionality of "steel reinforcement parts", but the most crucial point has been overlooked. Steel reinforcement is not an independent component, it must be inseparable from concrete.  So the first suggestion here is to combine concrete with steel bars, with steel bars as its parameter.  For example, a column must have longitudinal main reinforcement and stirrups (the same applies to beams), and the end structure is adjusted through "component nodes". Separate steel reinforcement parts are used to handle and modify more complex situations.  6: It is recommended to increase the decorative area of other parts, such as floors, walls, ceilings, insulation, waterproofing, doors and windows, etc. Here are only a few suggestions listed, mainly in terms of efficiency and reinforced concrete structures (rationalization suggestions are still being sorted out, currently there are more than 20). Attached are video files recorded for some of the suggestions.

    Here's a self introduction: -) My name is Wang Xinyang, and I am an engineer from China.  I have over 20 years of work experience (including construction site experience, bidding, and auditing experience), and currently mainly engage in on-site full process management of engineering cost.  At the same time, he/she also has over ten years of training and teaching experience (including teaching in higher education institutions), as well as over ten years of program development experience (obtained a certificate from the National Copyright Administration of the People's Republic of China, mainly for writing GUI oriented programs in C++based on the QT platform).  And possess professional qualification certificates of "First Class Constructor" and "First Class Cost Engineer".  At present, the main cost software used includes "CAD, Revit, Tekla、SketchUp", and domestic software such as "Guanglian Da", "Luban", "Sver", etc. I have close communication and interaction with "Guanglian Da" company, and I am also an expert user and specially appointed lecturer of their company.  Of course, Guanglian Da is just a local software in China and is not well-known in other countries around the world. However, I personally witnessed its process from inception to perfection, and finally to mature and monopolize. The efficient communication between the R&D department and users is inseparable, and some feedback issues were even resolved by providing patches on the same day.  The level of importance placed on users is also one of the key factors for its rapid growth (currently, Guanglian Da's software has an absolute monopoly position in China).  So I am also eager to have some communication and interaction with your company to promote software updates and iterations together!

    Finally, Work smoothly and everything goes smoothly!

    The attachment is a demonstration of functions such as CAD segmentation, floor, and part conversion.

    Tekla

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~translation~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Tekla's forum doesn't seem very active, isn't there anyone who cares about the efficiency of modeling and software? I hope the R&D department or the management of Tekla company can take this issue seriously. (Not limited to one's own small space, only by opening one's eyes to the world can one discover one's own shortcomings)
