Hi Tom,
So if it works with a R580, I'm pretty confident that it would then work with nearly any Trimble receiver...
NMEA string is the format of streaming data that is sent out of the receiver... https://www.gpsworld.com/what-exactly-is-gps-nmea-data/

Thanks Steve. We have not yet purchased ArcGIS. I did find out that the Trimble R580 will work with it but we do not have that equipment but are looking into it. I may sound dumb here but what is NMEA string? Is this the same as the lemo cable from the tablet to the receiver?

Hi Tom,
It's going to depend on how ArcGIS interacts with the receiver. Can ArcGIS use a NMEA string from the receiver to get its positioning? I don't think that ArcGIS has the ability to connect directly to a Trimble receiver (like Siteworks does for example to setup the correction method, etc.) But if ArcGIS can use a generic NMEA string coming in over a COM port, then you can use the WebUI to configure the Trimble receiver to stream out the appropriate NMEA string and then have ArcGIS connect to a virtual COM port that would be coming in over Bluetooth from the receiver to the T7.
Probably best to do some investigation into exactly what the ArcGIS GNSS configuration needs to be, perhaps by talking with whomever sold you ArcGIS.

Does anyone know if Arc GIS can be used with a T7 or Panasonic toughbook tablet and SPS 986/985 receiver? From what understand it may be just as long as we have a bluetooth connection
