Indeed this is an old topic and I honestly still do not understand why hasn't clarified yet...
However, officially, the right way to load Revit files is through the plugin you have to install in Revit.
Of course you need a full Revit licence to operate, and it's more or less equivalent to export to IFC and load the IFC.
At the beginning we tried to use that workflow, but having to closely monitor the export procedure and given that you had to restart Revit every couple of exports, we ended to rely strongly on IFC, and that has also other advantages. We even developed a sort of batch processor tool to massively export a number of models to IFC...
However, manually uploading RVT files to Trimble connect still trigger the 'conversion' procedure, that always fails. This is the point I do not understand. It'd be much clearer if RVT files where treated as any 'non-model' files, just uploaded and not shown on the models list, since they are not directly viewable.
Telling the true, sometime, very rarely, the desktop version succeed in the conversion, but you cant' honestly rely on it.
So, IMHO, think about using IFC files as base for your models and drop RVT files if you can.
And yes, Trimble should clarify the situation, and if they don't want to fix the import of RVT files, could at least disable the trigger of the conversion procedure, since it doesn't work and confuse user into thinking it's even possible.

Subject: can't be open Revit files in Trimble Connect
Hello,
I've tried viewing REVIT files in Trimble Connect and can't.
I've also tried with other Trimble accounts, but it doesn't work.
It seems to be processing, but it never finishes.
Can someone help me?
