Error installing Terra Office for ArcGIS Pro v2024.20

  • 1.  Error installing Terra Office for ArcGIS Pro v2024.20

    On a Windows 11 laptop, Pro v. 3.3. and installing (from Trimble Docushare ) the latest version of Terra Office add-in for ArcGIS Pro (Trimble Terra Office add-in for ArcMap v2024.20).  Read all the support info i could gleam from Terra Office add-in for ArcGIS Pro (trimblegeospatial.com) and have not found any info on Error 1628.  Screenshot attached.  I do have admin on this machine, so I doubt its any admin issue.  I get to a point where its "Preparing to install", 2nd panel popup, and then installer closes and this error is revealed.

    I don't yet have a license (Standard required).  Must I have a license before installing?   Is this the reason for the error?

    Joel, you don't need to have a license to install, as you authenticate through your Trimble ID login after install. It almost seems like the download got somewhat corrupted. Either that or perhaps you had an ESRI product open on your windows machine when you ran the installer? I would re-download the installer, restart your computer, and then re-run with full admin permissions. @Matthew Morris…any other ideas?

    Great suggestion by Zach and still getting same error 1628 - Failing.   If I knew where the installer unpacks too, I might be able to do some sleuthing.  Does anyone know where this installer unpacks too?

    Again, I have full admin and other installations (TBC, TRW) all install fine.

    Hi @Joel Cusick. Can you try starting the installer as administrator to see if that makes a difference? Additionally, can you confirm the version of Coordinate System Manager you have installed on your computer already? Thanks.

    Hi Matt,
    I am installing as administrator - no other way to install otherwise.  

    I have two CSM's.  3.10.3.0 (TBC v. 2024.x) and PFO's (2.90, Database version 0.08).

    Hi Joel,

    The 1628 error is caused by a problem with MSI and Windows Installer Service that are used by the Terra Office add-in for ArcGIS Pro installer. The installer is very simple and it only requests installing a number of files and some registry reading and writing. We suspect the problem is with the internal "admin" operation of Windows Installer Service on which we do not have much influence.

    As can be seen from various web pages (for example: https://community.flexera.com/t5/InstallShield-Knowledge-Base/Error-1628/ta-p/4012), there is a number of reasons that could cause the issue and it is impossible to provide specific instructions.

    I'll elevate this to our IT.  It is possible my credentials on this machine are not as high as theirs.

    Thats the easiest route right now.  I'll keep you posted.   Have rebooted, twice, with nothing running in background.   Security I'm sure.

    Solved.   I downloaded TrimbleTerraOfficeArcGISProAddInSetup.exe today and tried again and the install worked like it should.!    My IT did the same today which triggered my 4th attempt just now.

    This will require ADMIN privileges - for my FED co-workers inside DOI.
