Nope, just changing antennas won't make any difference.
If you find a Geo 7x which has the H-Star option turned on, that can give 10cm accuracy with Tornado or Zephyr 2 / 3 or internal antenna with appropriate corrections or using post-processing.
If you find a Geo 7x which has the CM option turned on, that can give 1cm accuracy with Zephyr 2 / 3 with appropriate corrections, better than 10cm with other antennas.
Upgrading an existing Geo 7x to add H-Star or CM option used to be possible but (1) you can't do it anymore because support for Geo 7x ended years ago, and (2) I'd guess even the H-Star option would have cost more than your second-hand Geo 7x cost you!

Okay. Now the question is: if I change the antenna to a "precision" one, like the Zephyr 2, will the receiver operate with centimeter accuracy? Does this require some change in the device's configuration, or is it completely impossible?

The serial number comes up as "Trimble Geo 7X handheld (Floodlight, NMEA)" with no mention of H-Star or cm so indicates a base model with sub-meter. This would be consistent with the Tempest rather than the Zephyr antenna.
As an example, my cm unit shows up as "Trimble Geo 7X handheld with rangefinder (Centimeter, H-Star, Floodlight, NMEA)".

I'll paste a photo of the nameplate, all the data will be there and it will probably be the most readable:

Artur,
What is the serial number of the Geo? I can try to get you a TerraSync code for it. We have many folks still running these handheld receivers so it should be possible.

I'll try that – the question is, will I hear again: "We don't deal with recalled equipment"... It's actually quite sad. Someone once spent a significant amount of money on this type of equipment, hasn't had a problem with it for the last 10 years, and then suddenly something happens and they hear: "We don't deal with recalled equipment." Ultimately, I'll just throw the set in the trash and that's it – I bought it a few weeks ago for a price that doesn't a big deal to me, and I'm calculating the risk of losing it. On the other hand, today's world is crazy when it forces people to throw working equipment in the trash because someone refuses to restore it to working condition. The manufacturer's website has all the necessary software available for download, man want to pay to activate all the device's functions, and hear – sorry, but no.
I'll try asking for the Terra Sync code and see what happens.
Best regards,

Artur,
First, to be fair to your Dealer, the windows mobile operating system (or windows embedded handhel), Geo7x as a whole, and TerraSync software are long since discontinued. Second, when buying this type of equipment used, I would ensure to confirm working licensing/software PRIOR to pulling the trigger on purchasing. Third, TerraFlex is no longer supported on Windows mobile operating systems so that software is off the table. Your best bet is asking your Trimble dealer to request a TerraSync professional (or CM edition) code. If you provide the dealer with the serial number, Trimble may be able to cross check and find the license of TerraSync that was tied to it.
