I would shut the unit down, pop out the battery, and inspect the unit where the battery makes connection to the 8 contacts. Over time/usage, the contacts inside the Geo7x that make contact with the battery contacts get pushed up or bent upwards. Ensure that you see 8 even male contacts when looking down the barrel of the Geo7x housing with the battery removed. If there is a bit of a slope to the male contacts, then that could be your problem. The contacts can be gently pulled back to where they were; however, you may want to send this in for service. I can check to see if we (AllTerra central) still service these or not. Lastly, could it simply be a screen timeout setting that is set to 1 minute or so?
