Issues staking out a line in Siteworks (multiple projects, multiple firmware versions)

    All-

Have any of you experienced any issues when trying to stake out a line in Siteworks?  We have seen this now a handful of times on different projects, with different TSC7s running different firmware versions, where when we try to select and stake a line, we just have the option of "Free Pick", as if the line isn't even there.  This specifically happens when trying to select the line along a curve, and if go and click on a straight segment of the same line, it works.  At doesn't happen all the time, but I'm not sure if this is a known issue with the TSC7s, or if it is due to some properties associated with the actual CAD linework.  Also not sure why it only happen along the curved sections.  Any help is appreciated, thanks!

    Scott,

First double check that there is not a DXF/DWG file in the root of the Site folder, this would correspond to a Site Map.  Site Maps are viewable, but often not selectable and if they are identical to the Design Map dxf file, or identical to linework in the VCL file, they can overlay and as not selectable for guidance can cause issues.  Second, What is the zoom level when trying to select the line in the curve?  The pick aperture can be just off the line sometimes and give you the free pick selection. Third, what type of line is it?  CAD poly or Linestring in the creating data, and what type of curve definition is defined for the curve.  Has it been derived from a less robust CAD data type?

Please include some data that makes this behavior happen so we can try it out.

Thanks for the response Delton.  I did confirm that there are no dxf/dwg files in the root.  After we received the call from our gradesetter who brought this to our attention, we tried this on the Siteworks emulator as well as we also experienced the same problem.  We just tried selecting the line while zoomed way in and also way out and still have the issue.  I do know that the line type is a CAD Polyline.  I will send you the native CAD we received, and also our cleaned up DCM to see if that helps.  This doesn't happen often, but we've seen it on 4 or 5 jobs now.  Thanks for the help!

    Scott,

I have experienced this with certain lines, within a curve for roughly the last 6 years.  I cant offer much more than that.  You are not alone.

I have run into this issue also.  I can't figure out what the cause is but if I trace the original line with a new line in AutoCad, I can select the newly drawn line.  I suspect It has to do with some of the possible quirks with poly lines like zero length geometry, overlapping lines/arcs, inverted normals or some combination.

    Hi There,

If you are having issues with specific data in Siteworks that is not selectable, please send that in to your SITECH so they can raise a support case with Trimble to get it investigated.  Be sure to include the file, and a screenshot of where in the design that the line is so that we can easily find try to replicate the issue.  That's the best avenue to get things investigated and fixed in an upcoming release of Siteworks,

Sorry for the troubles that you may be having with the data. I can assure you that support cases that are escalated by SITECH are looked at by us at Trimble, speaking for Siteworks here and we always do our best to make fixes  and address the issues in future releases.
