We fundamentally support the approach of linking all Trimble services to a personal Trimble ID. This leads to greater security and clear traceability.
We are Trimble dealers. Until now, we have been working in Worksmanager and Connect with a general Trimble ID. Every year, we create 1,000 new Trimble Connect and Worksmanager projects for ourselves and our customers. A large part of our service is the creation of 3D models and user support. We use a general Trimble ID, such as support@sitech.ch, to maintain constant insight into all projects.
In preparation for the changeover at the end of January, we would like to receive additional information on the following situations, which we would like to explain.
Fortunately, Trimble Connect allows you to create project templates with predefined project teams. This enables us to ensure that all employees have access to all projects. However, this becomes critical for new employees, who do not have access to all projects that have already been opened. This is very inconvenient.
Customers who actively work with Trimble Connect must also invite SITECH to all new projects in the future so that we have access to the data and can respond quickly in case of support issues. In most construction companies, only the site manager creates projects. This person is difficult to reach, resulting in waiting times until they can give us access. The same problem applies to new employees. At our company and at our customers' companies, one person must ensure that the predefined group is always kept up to date.
Our customers have purchased construction surveying systems from us. When using Trimble Access or Trimble Fieldlink, the user has to log in with a Trimble ID to synchronize data from Trimble Connect. The construction surveying systems are usually assigned to construction jobs, meaning to a project rather than to a person. This means that several users use the same system. With MFA, we could, for example, set up a passkey and label it clearly on the device so that everyone can log in. This doesn't fit with our security ideas. Is there a better way? Or is the only way for everyone to have a personal Trimble ID, and the site manager has to make sure everyone has access to the projects?
Now I'll add a special situation regarding Worksmanager.
In Worksmanager, we have linked all customer accounts to our own SITECH account. This means that we have access to all of our customers' accounts and projects via the support@sitech.ch login. Fortunately, we can always give ourselves access to edit these projects. Assuming that we will all be working with personal Trimble IDs in the future:
Will we then have to add all employees to all customer accounts?
If we have access to several thousand projects with our personal Trimble ID in Connect, we would like to have a filter option to display only the projects we have created ourselves. Similar to what you are probably familiar with from OneDrive or GoogleDrive. (shared with me)
I am interested in how other Trimble dealers will deal with this. Recommendations from Trimble are also welcome.
