Im dinding it very diffucult to use when the internet is off.

I have some urgent setting out to do and I cant use Trimble connect because there is no internet. Whats the deal with being connected to the internet all the time . I need my systems to work all the time not only some of the time.

    Hi Andrew,

Which Trimble Connect application are you using - Mobile or Desktop native app while being offline ? And what issue are you facing. Could you be more specific.

    Regards

I have the desktop version. I have imported a BIM model that came from Navisworks. (The file was 173 meg )

No problems viewing the BIM model in Trimble connect.

I can export as a TRB file and its around 600 meg. When this file is loaded onto the TSC5 controller , it hangs the controller.

I have cut out small sections of the BiM model and saved them to TRB files and uploaded them to the controller. As long as these cut out areas are very very small , then the TSC5 is able to use them.

So , in order for me to do all the setting out on this project , Im going to need to cut this BIM model up into thousands of very small sections and make TRB files.

I don't always have internet and an not able to cut out a small section of the BIM model.

The project manager told me that Leica people don't seem to have this type of problem.

Basically , if there is no internet then I cant do any setting out and the work comes to a standstill.

I have also loaded Trimble connect onto my iphone and ipad. The software will only work if its connected to the internet. I can understand that it will first be necessary to sync and get the model onto the device , but after that , the internet isn't required

Another thing that bothers me is that in Trimble connect , I cant export to DXF and also cant see any coordinates. I have to use Navisworks freedon to load the model and then painstakingly click  a few points and then write down the coordinates and then open up CAD and enter the coordinates. I can then do further work.

    Hi Andrew,

When you say cutting out the BIM model , are you adding clip planes to the model and creating a view  from the Trimble Connect for Windows application ?

Hi , I have found how to see coordinates. Is there any way to get this into CAD or export all these points to a file.

What I do is select and hide everything except the very specific item that I need to set out. I then export it as a TRB file. The file size is quite small.

The survey controller ( TSC5 ) can then handle this very small file.

Another problem I have is sometimes the model disappears  and its very difficult to find . In Trimble Connect , is there a way to zoom to the extents of the model.Sometimes there is a small spec of dust on my PC screen and I think that could be the model. I end up panning around and zooming to try and locate the model. In the end , I close the software and run it again. This solves the problem. Most other CAD type software has a zoom-extent function.
