Hi Michael,
As Zach has indicated, anyone who purchases TerraFlex does so via their authorised Trimble reseller, clicking the 'How to buy' button on the TerraFlex Web page will show the dealers available. I'd recommend having a read of the information on the above site in general. I'd also recommend looking at the 'Trimble TerraFlex' blogs available on the Trimble Geospatial site here.
As is described in the Help Portal link Zach included, when an organisation buys TerraFlex licenses those licenses are assigned to an administrator who then uses the Trimble License Manager Web application to assign those licenses to each end user as appropriate. While the license level is not seen directly in the TerraFlex mobile application it is seen in the License Manager, which is also used to manage other Trimble licenses including, for example, Trimble Catalyst. If a single user buys TerraFlex the same process applies, though in this case the administrator and the end user would be the same person.
Your email address currently has a TerraFlex Standard subscription applied to it which expires in November this year.
Best regards,
Mark.

Dear Zach,
So now I am really confused. I have been using TerraFlex 5.9.2.288 that I downloaded free from the Play Store for my LG20 Android Phone and the Apple-based version 5.9.3.291 free from the App store for my version 12 iPhone. I did not encounter a mention of cost or licensing. I have been assuming that, once one had a Trimble account (paid or not) and one bought a handheld (e.g., a TDC600) one was done with sending money to Trimble. I clearly do not have the whole picture. And I haven't even started to figure out the relationship between $$$ and precision, which we must cover.
A bit of recent history as to why I have not worked with Trimble Geospatial distributor: The Two TDC600s were provided to Alex and me by Ron Bisio (Senior Vice President (Geospatial)) via what I believe to be the New Zealand development team including Hamish Macmillan, Mathias Roehring, and Matthew Morris. They have been very helpful in helping me plumb the mysteries of Connect and TerraFlex.
Trimble has supported the book for many years. Ron will be writing the Foreword to the 4th Edition. Trimble's Alan Townsend wrote the Foreword for a previous edition. We are in discussions with Trimble about the possibility of bundling 4th Edition texts with TDC600s for university and advanced high school classes. Bottom Line: I really have to get this stuff right!
Some questions:
- How do I determine which TerraFlex Edition (Starter (Basic?), Standard, or Premium) do I have? The "About" menu item that details the Software Version on the handheld provides no clue.
- My co-author (Alex Kennedy) and I each have a TDC600 given gratis to us by Trimble. Both of these handhelds have locked up completely while taking line files after an arbitrary number of Tracks -- e.g., 2345. Do you know of other instances of this happening? The problem has not occured with TerraFlex on my iPhone or Android phone.
- How would the TerraFlex and Connect licensing work for, say, a class of 15 students at an institution of higher learning?
Cheers,
Michael

P.S. Hamish, you asked: Can you confirm you have TerraFlex v5.9 on your LG2m in response to my earlier query "my ancient LG 20 doesn't get the memo and continues to take data at one vertex a second". I upgraded to 5.9.2.288 and the issue went away. Thanks!. MK

Michael,
I am shocked that you are not aware of the versions. This is normally presented early in the sales process, as you are required to work with a Trimble Geospatial distributor. See here: Licensing (trimblegeospatial.com). I believe premium is $640/year, standard $480, and basic at $325 or so. Standard is and continues to be our most popular license that we sell. Premium has been picking up quite a bit too due to the automatic differential correction capability with supported Trimble receivers.

Dear Zach,
Thanks for the reply.
I was startled to find out that there are three flavors of TerraFlex. How would I find out which I have?
This is important because my book The Global Positioning System and ArcGIS is undergoing a revision to the 4th Edition.
https://www.amazon.com/Global-Positioning-System-ArcGIS/dp/1420087991
So, the variety in versions is something we definitely have to include in the book! Where could I find a discussion of the differences? How does a user obtain the different versions and is there a cost difference?
I have another question I would ask you to research; perhaps ask your colleagues in the Community? My co-author (Alex Kennedy) and I each have a TDC600 given to us by Trimble. Both of these handhelds have locked up completely while taking line files after a number of Tracks -- e.g., 2345. Do you know of other instances of this happening? The problem does not occur with my iPhone or Android phone.
Many thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Michae Kennedy

Michael,
You should be able to click the pencil in the draft form (feature) and then submit in the top right with the check mark. If there is no positional data shown, there is nothing worth saving unfortunately. Also, if you have TerraFlex standard or premium, you can turn on breadcrumb logging in the TerraFlex settings. I would recommend always having this on, as it can be a backup to your data (in-field accuracies only, no post-processing is applied to the logged csv files). I have used it to held restore a customer's data loss in the past. If you have TerraFlex basic, however, you cannot do this.

I took a long file on a TDC600 and was forced to save it as a draft rather than turn it into a form. The template had no non-autofield requirements (i.e., there was nothing I had to put in) so I don't know why this happened.
But now the main question is: How do I recover the long line-datafile that I took and that is curently saved as a draft?
Thanks,
Michael Kennedy
