    Hi all, 

     

    I've got a small question, related to the organizational possibilities of Trimble connect. 

    Within windows explorer, I've got the possibility to created "hyperlinks", which gives acces to different parts of the folders structure. 

     

    Is this also possible within trimble connect. 
    The possibility exists within Google drive (sharing links of location of folders), but this is only possible with documents (the little enveloppe button in Trimble). The actual folder itself cannot be shared.

    Hi @Marcel Reitsema,

    Sharing folders with team members is not possible currently in Trimble Connect. Its possible to share just files within a project.  

     

    Your suggestion seems interesting. Trying to get some details on  the expected behavior. 

    a. Are you requesting ability to share folders across projects?

    b. If yes, can you please let us know how would we determine which user can share the folders across projects. Should it be the owning account or any other criteria? There are use cases where people from different companies / accounts share a project (Contractors for example). In such situations, should the access to share folders be restricted to only certain people ?

     

    Can you please let us know your workflow and use case. It will help us determine the value of this feature.

    Yes.

    For the user case:

    A client of mine has currently running around 5-6 BIM projects where new buildings are being built or renovation is on the way. To get a grip on all the data (BIM related) and to give everybody a single source of truth, it would be much easier to keep the models separate within a defined project name (BIM projects) and link specific locations related to the project to the project folder.

     

     

     

    As for the account who has the rights to create these folders or links: Only the creator or administrator of the projects.

     

    Sharing can only be done by the users who are assigned for reading and writing notes and todos.

    Hello Darshan, I see this post is quite old. Is there any plan to let users sharing folders in Trimble Connect? At the moment having only the option to share files is a big limitation in the software itself. Thanks,

    What do you mean exactly by "Sharing folders"? Sharing folders between projects, so updating files in one Trimble Connect project would propagate that change to other linked projects? As that is something we would find useful and separate internal and external communications based on the same models.

    The original question was also about "envelope button" being available for files only. Is that request basically the same thing as inviting a person to the project and copy pasting the address from browser address bar?  But some sharing option which would actually allow access to that specific folder...if you invite person in you would need to go through all folders to check Trimble Connect folder permissions so no one can see what they are not supposed to see.

    Just trying to understand what type of sharing you are asking to see and if that is something I will support. :)

    Hello Tero,

    I am looking for the option to share a folder in Trimble Connect web, same way as you can share one or more files with "share data" creating a link for member of the project or even any user with the link. I also noticed another issue we're having this time with the releases: there is no option at the moment to select an entire folder and add to a release. You need to select each file and add to the release, what is not suitable when you have hundreds of files. Is there any solution or future implementations for these two issues? Thanks,

    So you mean sharing without inviting to project?

    About the releases, you can select the first file and Shift+select the last file and that selects all the files in between. Not greatest if folder has hundreds or even dozens of files, but much better than 100 clicks

    I am aware about the multi-selection but this is not what I am looking for. It's important to be able to select at folder level when you have several folders to share or to add to the release. At the moment this option is not available in Trimble Connect and I am wondering if and when it will be available. Thanks,

    Hello,

    I am trying to figure out if there is a possibility of sharing folders from one TC project to another one. It's practically the same as you wrote in the first part of this message. We would like to have our own TC project for internal communication, but at the same time, we want the data to be syncronized with original project. For example, a client uploads new models and they will automatically appear in our internal project. Is there any way to do this?

    We would also like this functionality.  We have a site plan shared across multiple trimble projects - right now we have to download it from the sitewide project (Plot X) and upload it into all the other plot projects (Plot A, B, C etc) this is prone to error and version misalignment. So one file location say Plot X and a file link into folders on Plot A ect. would be EXTREMELY helpful. this way we can aggregate the plot models and the site plan at the same time in any project without having multiple site plans copied across projects.

    Hello 

    I was sturggling with similar issue and I have decided to use TC Sync to get a walkaround. You can set a several schedules (can be synchornized automaticaly or on a daily or hourly basis) and synchronize selected folders to your PC and then from PC to other TC project. I hope it will help you.

    Yes, I solved it the same way. But it's a pity that trimble connect doesn't have such a feature directly without the need to burden downloading files to your own computer/one drive.
