The complementarity between SketchUp and Layout represents an efficient workflow for 3D model documentation. However, the current integration with the Trimble Connect platform has significant areas for improvement that limit its potential within a collaborative Building Information Modeling (BIM) environment. Specifically, the following limitations are identified:
1- Direct Viewing: The lack of a native viewer within Trimble Connect prevents direct inspection and review of SketchUp and Layout files without the need to download and open the corresponding applications.
2- Centralized File Management: The inability to upload or download files directly from Trimble Connect within the Layout interface makes centralized management of project information difficult and hinders a smooth workflow.
3- Consistency in Tag Structure: Inconsistencies in the way tags are managed and displayed between SketchUp, Layout, and Trimble Connect create potential communication errors and make it difficult to efficiently organize and filter model information.
Overcoming these limitations through more robust integration and specific features would significantly optimize the BIM workflow, fostering more efficient collaboration and more consistent information management throughout the project lifecycle.
