TBC - WM - SW

    Hoping someone can help me.

In TBC I create a design with a surface and some 3d linework (Water / Sewer).  I send it out to WM through the TBC software tab and publish to my data collectors.  My field people will sync  / download it to their siteworks data collectors.  Here is the problem.  Out of TBC to WM a vcl is created.  My data collectors get the job I sent out, but there is NO 3d linework.  Surface is there, linework is there but everything has been converted to 2d.  Inside TBC I have 'vcl clean up' turned to 'off' in the project settings.  Although I have tried both ways with no difference.  I understand how to get my 3d linework out to the field in spite of WM I just can't figure out what part of the process is breaking the 3d information.  Hopefully, someone has a fix for this.

    Hey Thomas,

When exporting out your information which method are you using? Is it "User defined","Surface" or "3D-linework"? Also as a possible work around you could use the "Field Data to USB" option and this will generate all of your files in their respective folders.

    Hi Thomas,

Can you share the source VCE and the VCL that's getting produced.

And when you bring the field VCL back into TBC, the lines are 2D in there as well?

Far as I know if you have 3D lines and are not using the actual utility module to produce utility models, the linework should maintain its elevations.

We have had that problem for quite sometime. Trimble keeps telling me they are working on it but still no dice. They tell us to build the design in WM using the 3D dxf and publish it to the device. We have had some success publishing from TBC with just that 3D linework only but it is hit and miss. I also think it might have something to do if the controller has SCS900 also. Just have not had time to narrow it down.

I know I have come across my own issues with modeling pipes via the utility module and trying to get these out to the field for both SiteWorks and Earthworks. I would like to see this become a seamless process.

One thing I will mention is if you model everything in the utility module, select this data, export out as dxf/dwg and then reimport this file back into TBC, you will get points and 3D lines that the field can then use. The issue becomes if you have to alter the original runs, you then have to re-due this whole process. I would consider this a interim workaround so keep pushing your Trimble reps to streamline this data process. Very valuable too.

    Hi Thomas,

We have completely abandoned export from TBC to WM as it is unreliable. VCL just doesn't work.

Export DXF + TTM and upload them thru WM webpage.

We have used WM since it started, and I thought it got better last year, but in the past few months, it seems like it's going back to where it started. We only used to have issues mostly when it gets to Earthworks, but now even our Siteworks has also started to have issues. We had no choice, so we started to build some of our designs using the Export DXF+TTM to keep the field going. We'll probably be going in the same direction as @Marian Plucinski said, abandoning building design from TBC to WM.
