Phil,
As a Trimble dealer we (NEI) see this issue with most Trimble mapping products using SIM cards purchased directly from cellular networks.
We use (DAC) Machine to Machine & IoT Cellular Services | Data Activation Center and have no issues as they are Trimble certified and have AT&T and Verizon at a very fair rate. Their customer services is very supportive if any issues arise.

I had AT&T double check the type of SIM card I installed in the data collector and the device is still showing that the SIM card is missing and there is no cellular service available. I tried both slots and still did not work. My sales rep said to just use my phone as a hot spot when I'm out in the field but I should not have to do that. Has anyone else experienced this situation?
