Trimble Connect ignores tags/layers assigned to SketchUp groups/components

Trimble Connect ignores tags/layers that are assigned to SketchUp groups/components if they do not contain any loose geometry in them. For example, in the image below, I have a group called FIRST FLOOR and it has a corresponding tag, FIRST FLOOR. In SketchUp, I can hide the trusses by hiding the TRUSS tag, and I can hide the walls by hiding the WALLS tag, or I can hide everything by hiding the FIRST FLOOR tag.

But in Trimble Connect, the FIRST FLOOR tag/layer isn't available.

Turns out, it's because the FIRST FLOOR group only contains other groups/components in it and no loose geometry. If I add some random rectangle directly under the FIRST FLOOR group, I'm able to see the tag/layer in Trimble Connect, and I have full control over the visibility of my model.

Pretty please, fix this bug. Groups/components are used all the time to organize other containers, and they very often do not contain loose geometry. This makes Trimble Connect nearly unusable for SketchUp users.

I also just realized that the layer behavior isn't consistent between Trimble Connect Desktop and Trimble Connect for Web. It appears the TCWeb is even worse because it won't inherit any visibility from parent containers. Instead, it only reacts to tags/layers assigned directly to the child group/component. If you download the files linked above, try them in both the desktop version and the web version

    Hi Matt,

The inconsistencies between Sketchup and Connect is unfortunately a known issue and unfortunately I am not too familiar with where we are on having fixes available. I will look into this and get back to you.

That's incredibly disappointing, especially considering Connect and SketchUp are both Trimble products! You'd think it would be a top priority to have two Trimble products work together. These bugs have existed for years, and I continually check back every so often hoping that they've been fixed, but it never happens. I've been wanting to do a review video of Trimble Connect w/SketchUp on my YouTube channel for years, but keep holding off because it's so incompatible and buggy.

I just came to the forum to find out how to deal with Layers between Sketchup and Trimble Connect. Unfortunatelly I'm with Matt here. I'm very disappointed that this doesn't work well. We should have seamless transition between how we organize Layers in Sketchup and TC.

And here we are... almost two years later and still SketchUp tags are useless.

I totally recognize myself in Matt's story. Wanting to use Trimble connect since its release but every time I give it a try (once a year) it turns out in a disappointment.
It almost seems like Trimble doesn't want SketchUp to be a tool for professional documentation. (Don't get me started on LayOut)

    Any new features/fixes coming up!?
