I think this is a new problem, problably due to a change in some recent updates.
When hiding an object, the don't become invisible anymore, just transparent.
Is there a setting where I can change that?

You haven't by accident pressed the "Ghost Mode" in the 3D Viewer's main menu?
Ghost Mode is described in the user manual:
