 SiteVision - Current smartphone recommendations

Hi everyone,

We just ordered a 2nd SiteVision and now I'm wondering, which Smartphone to I should get..
There's a nice article from 2019 (SiteVision - Which Phone Should I Get? - Trimble Sitevision) and also a list of recommended devices (Trimble SiteVision Mobile Requirements - Trimble Sitevision), but all of these devices are older..

Which Smartphone would you buy in 2022?

Hi Marco, 

Since our latest release includes support for iOS devices and for the DA2 receiver, this question gets broken up based on whether you're using the DA1 or the DA2 receiver configuration. 

For the DA1 set-up using the SiteVision handle, the Samsung Galaxy S22+, S22 or S21+ have been tested and are recommend. The articles you've linked still apply here - the more modern the RAM, processor and battery life are, the better the performance of SiteVision. 

Using the DA2 receiver, the Samsung Galaxy S22+, S22 or S21+ are again recommended for Android devices. For iOS, the iPhone Pro 13 or the iPad Pro (M1) are recommended, as both utilize LiDAR when performing measurement workflows.

I ordered a "normal" SiteVision handle (BuldingPoint Shop), so i suppose I'm restricted to the DA1 receiver?
How is it possible, to use the DA2 as a SiteVision? With the Catalyst Handle?

Hi Marco, 

Yes you will have a DA1 receiver, and unfortunately will not be able to use the Catalyst handle with the DA2 as hardware-wise the DA1 is locked into the catalyst handle.

Thanks! I understand, that my SiteVision handle has the DA1 receiver..

But because you mentioned, the DA2 could be used as SiteVision, I wonder how? With the Catalyst Handle (wihtout EDM)? Or like the R12i with a pole?

Hi Marco, 

My apologies for not being clear! The DA2 connects via Bluetooth to SiteVision, and the hardware set-up is exactly like the R12i on a pole. 

As the DA2 doesn't use the Catalyst handle, we can't use the EDM - this has been replaced by camera measurement mode which can utilize LiDAR technology, which is why we recommended the LiDAR capable iOS devices when using this set-up!
