 Survey Data lost through download

Have a field crew that was using Connect to transfer job data to and from the controller. A job was setup in Trimble sync manager then downloaded on the controller. The surveyor spent a whole day collecting observations but never uploaded the job because they were not done the work. However they needed a couple more control points. These points were added to the job in Trimble sync manager. Then when the surveyor downloaded the job from connect to get the control points he lost all of his stored survey points. the field and office crews were not aware that it would completely overwrite the job, they thought it would update rather than overwrite.

I assume this is a order of process error on our part. Sounds like the job was never switched from "New" to "In Progress", as well it was never uploaded to connect before adding the new control points. However my question is then can we get that data back in anyway? would it still be stored somewhere on the controller? or is it completely gone? Surveyor is starting over at the moment but if some one knows of any way we could maybe retrieve that data we would love to try it.

Also there was no warning or anything to either the field or office crews while doing this. I think it would be beneficial if at least in the controller it let you know a job is about to be overwritten while downloading from connect.

Hello Devon,

Apologies that you have ran into this issue.

As the job originated in Trimble Sync Manager, are you sure that the data was never re-uploaded to the cloud?
Trimble Access does automatically trigger an upload on certain actions and also has the sync scheduler options.
It could be worth checking the upload activity using connect web to see if Trimble Access pushed the data to the cloud. I this was the case it should be possible to restore an earlier version of the file using Connect web.

If the data never made it into the cloud, I am not aware of any recovery options available through Trimble Access
The next place I would look is do you have any automated backup of the file system running on the data collector?

If you need further assistance on this specific data set I would recommend raising a support case.

I am currently unable to replicate what you describe. I will reach out to you separately to gather more details on versions and specific steps.
