Are there any problems with data transfer with Trimble software and Windows "10" computers. Will the "Windows Mobile Device Center" still work or do we need a different program?
I am working with Windows 10 computer and I don't have any issues with Trimble Data Transfer utility. Please make sure that you are using the latest version 1.57. In case you are running into any issues or see any problems with Windows 10, please come back to me.
We currently use Window Mobile Device Center to go between data recorder and computer. Does this program replace this software?
The answer is no. Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) is a software which control the connection between your control unit and the PC. Trimble Data Transfer is a tool to generate specific file out once you has establish a connection between control unit and PC. In case you have issues with WMDC, Trimble Data Transfer tool will not work either.
I hope this make sense and answer your question. Have a great day!
The Trimble Data Transfer software is something that I’ve never heard of. It must mean that it is working in the background?
I will assume that it is a part of Pathfinder Office. Can I assume that with a current version of Pathfinder Office, that I have a current version of Trimble Data Transfer?
How do determine how to check the current version of Trimble Data Transfer?
When say “out file” are you saying file that transfers from pathfinder office to GPS unit? Any .cor, .ssf, background image, etc.
On another issue.
We’ve been hearing that our GeoExplorers require an operating system update. Is this true, what’s the reason for this? If so, why haven’t we received any notification.
Thanks for getting back to us.
There are 2 parts to connecting to your GeoExplorer:
The Data Transfer Utility is installed as part of GPS Pathfinder Office (PFO) and will be current with the version of PFO you are using e.g. If you have PFO v5.85 then the DTU will be v5.85. This is a slightly different setup to the standalone version of the DTU which is why the version is different to Steven's comment above.
There's no need to update the DTU. There are no issues with this application currently.
The DTU doesn't run in the background either, It is started by the user when they want to connect and download data from the WEHH device (as per steps 1&2 above)
If you are unfamiliar with this process then you have 3 options:
With regards to the GeoExplorer you can find out what Operating system updates are available by visiting the GeoExplorer product page - downloads section.
Updates will be included in your maintenance and can be released to fix bugs or more generally to enhance the robustness and performance of your device. We encourage you to monitor the downloads pages to take advantage of these updates but we also have our regional Trimble reseller's who help inform customers of any necessary updates. Again I'd recommend you give them a shout to see what version you should install and how to do it
