GPS Antenna for Ashtech Z12 - Passive or LNA

Question asked by darin friesen on Feb 24, 2020

I have an old Ashtech Z12.

1. What is the output bias voltage of the Ashtech Z12 receiver on the GPS antenna port?

    A. Will a passive GPS antenna work? Or does the Z12 need a amplified GPS signal?

I have looked in the manual, but it doesn't say one way or the other.  The manual does say that the Antenna that comes with the receiver, which I don't have anymore, has an LNA.

"A geodetic microstrip antenna, Figure 1.4, is seated on a precision machined

platform protected by a weatherproof cover. A low-noise preamplifier housed at

the base of the antenna provides sufficient gain for a cable up to 30 meters long."
