Connection Issues Trimble Mobile Manager and Field Maps

I was running into the similar issue. I was going crazy thinking I was typing the user/pass incorrectly.
On the phone/iPad close all apps, turn off wifi and bluetooth.
Turn the R2 and phone/ipad off. 
After all devices are off, i had to use the following sequence.
1. While outside, turn R2 unit on. LED turns orange, off, then solid green. 
2.  Turn phone/iPad on. Wifi should be off, bluetooth off and no running apps in the background.
3. Turn bluetooth on, and connect to the R2.
4. Open TMM and check status. We were able to connect to RTK like this.
