Use this function to draw the cross-sections from the active road design task along its alignment.

• Cross-sections can be presented for the desired section of the alignment.
• The source for the terrain cross-sections along the alignment can be either a road design task or the Quadri model.
  1. Road design task: The terrain will be presented as calculated in the quantity calculations of the road design task, and is influenced by the quantity calculation settings of the road design task.
  2. Quadri model: The terrain will be recalculated with a new set of calculation settings (related to the Quadri model) and presented. Selecting the Quadri model as the source, it is also possible to present additional features in the cross-sections, such as the following:
     • Hatched cross-sections for mass data
     • Quantity labels for mass data
     • Other alignments
     • Crossing wireframe models
     • Illustration symbols
     • Existing objects
• Cross-sections can be drawn with vertical exaggeration if required. A value of 1 means no exaggeration.
• A list of predefined drawing styles for cross-sections is available and the cross-sections will be drawn as per the selected drawing style.

Run the function from the following locations:

MOUS_ICO Toolbar: Draw Cross-sections:  Draw Cross-sections from Road Design Task
MOUS_ICO Menu: Road > Draw Cross-sections > Draw Cross-sections from Road Design Task…

The dialog Draw Cross-sections from Road Design Task will pop up.

The active road design task, start chainage, and end chainage of its alignment will be displayed at Model Info. To change the road design task, exit the function and run the function Select design task.

• Selecting the cross-sections that are to be drawn:
  • All the cross-sections that were calculated in the road design task (cross-sections at calculation interval, surface break points, and intermediate chainage points) can be drawn using this function. Cross-sections that are to be drawn can be limited using the options under Chainage Selection and Chainage Numbers.

When pressing the […]-button to select chainages to be included in the drawing, the codes can be used to identify the cross-section in the right pane list.

The field “Chainage Selection” shows the number of sections currently being calculated. To change the selection of sections, use the ellipse button to open the dialog box “Chainage Numbers”. This box contains a list of all cross-sections calculated in the road model, these sections can be filtered by either checking or unchecking them from the list, or by using the options under “include chainage calculated because of”.

1. Calculated interval: Includes all the calculated cross-sections (interval as per calculation interval of the road model).
2. User-defined chainage points: Includes the cross-sections at Intermediate Chainage Points (defined in road model). Cross-sections at desired chainage points can be obtained using this option.
3. Breakpoints in surface description: Includes cross-sections at surface description change points
4. Breakpoints in landscaping: Includes cross-sections at landscaping breakpoint sections
5. Vertical tangent points: Includes cross-sections at tangent points of the vertical alignment
6. Horizontal tangent points: Includes cross-sections at tangent points of the horizontal alignment

Use the option “For each” if calculation of a user-defined distance between chainage points is needed.

To include the cross-sections (of point 3 to 6) in the road model calculation, refer to the accuracy of Quantity Calculation Settings.

• Define the insertion point of the first cross-section. Use the ellipse button to pick the insertion point from the current drawing.
• The insertion point can also be defined by typing the values in the respective x- and y-fields.
• Vertical exaggeration: Ratio of horizontal scale to vertical scale.

• A dialog will pop up if the option Select Mass Data (ellipse button ) is selected:
  • Use the check box to select the materials you want to apply.
  • Click the color field to define the color
  • Draw hatched cross-sections: Cross-section layers will be hatched to differentiate the pavement layers, fill and cut areas.
  • Draw quantity label option: Includes quantity labels. Select the location for the label from the pull-down menu
• Draw other alignments: Includes the other alignments available in the active terrain model
• Draw wireframes: Includes the other wireframe models available in the active terrain model
• Draw illustration symbols: Includes the illustration symbols in the cross-sections
• Existing objects: Includes the existing objects available in the active terrain model

• Terrain Data: The source for the terrain profile along the alignment can be either quantity calculations of road model (default option) or terrain surface.
  • Quantity Calculations: The terrain profile will be presented based on quantity calculations and their settings.
  • Terrain Surface: The terrain profile will be recalculated with the calculation setting related to the terrain model. Selecting the terrain surface as the source, additional features such as other alignments, wireframe models, and existing objects can also be presented in the cross-sections.

• Sheet size: A selection of sheet sizes are available from the drop-down menu
• Use title block: Check this box if you have a predefined title block available.

• Column: Sets the number of columns
• Row: Sets the number of rows
• Drawing direction: Decides the direction in which the cross-sections are drawn
• Margin and placement: Sets the placement inside the frame and distance between the sections
  • Inner margins: Changing the size of the inner frames of each cross-section
  • The gap between sections: Defines the overlap between cross-sections in X and Y directions
  • Dx: Defines the horizontal shifting (left/right) of the cross-section from the middle of the cross-sections inner frame
• Reference elevation (Datum): (For a fixed number of rows only) Application suggestion as default. Enter a value to define a fixed reference level.
• Consider terrain: Considers terrain and subsurfaces into the section boundary if checked

Adjusting the gap between sections: 

Adjusting the inner margins: 

• Current Drawing style: Select a drawing standard from the list of the predefined national standards for cross-sections. The active drawing style is displayed at Style preview.

• Draw grid: The sections are drawn with a grid if checked
• Plot to: Select from the drop-down menu. The options are:
  • ACAD single file: The sections are drawn in the current drawing (model space)
  • ACAD single file with layouts: The sections are drawn in the current drawing and layouts are created in paper space. Layout name prefix can be set in the field Prefix.
  • ACAD multiple files: Creates a set of dwg files, one file for each layout. File name prefix can be set in the field Prefix.
  • File path: (Only available when option “ACAD multiple files” is chosen. Sets the destination path of the files created.
• Prefix: Use this option to set a prefix for the layouts/files that are created

Execute the function with the button Draw.
