Moisture detected in charging port...(Samsung devices)

06-07-2018 10:25

If you are a Samsung Galaxy/S7/S8, or any Samsung with a water resistant  IP68 rating, you may encounter the following message

Check port

Moisture has been detected. To charge your device, make sure your charger/USB port is dry.

This message is triggered when moisture detectors in the phone, or tablet's USB charging port, determine the level of moisture to be higher than normal

To protect the device from corrosion or further water damage, the USB port is disabled by the Android device, until the sensors have determined the USB port is dry.

What does this mean for Catalyst users?

The Catalyst DA1 antenna uses the USB port to send the GNSS signal to the Catalyst Service.  If the USB port is disabled by the phone, or tablet, the Catalyst service will no longer be able to communicate with the antenna and your GNSS feed will stop, until the issue is resolved and the moisture sensors deem the port to be dry.

This behaviour is outside of Trimble's control

How can I fix this?

This is a safety message and protocol, designed by the device manufacturer's operating system (OS) to protect and preserve your device. You should take notice and act to prevent any water, or moisture damage to the USB port.

We would recommend following any official advice/recommendations from the Samsung Support team. There are also a number of helpful blogs out there, describing this issue and offering advice, two good examples can be found here for the S8 and here for the S7
