Use this function to generate the longitudinal terrain profile from an existing 'FLATWIN' project (function Grid volume) along the desired line.

• The minimum required for this function to work is that the volume calculations are performed using the function Grid volume (FLATWIN).
• Terrain profile details will be read from the 'FLATWIN' project used to calculate the grid volume.
• Terrain profile can be generated and drawn to the current drawing.
• Terrain profiles can be generated along any selected line.
• The existing line, along which terrain profile is desired, can be selected.
• New lines, along which terrain profile is required, can also be drawn using this function.

Run the function from the following location:

MOUS_ICO Menu: Terrain > Volume Calculation >Section from Grid Volume

Select the function and the dialog box Cross-sections from FlatWin appears

On the tab 'General', the following details are to be defined: The 'FLATWIN' project to be used for generating the terrain profile, the line along which terrain profile is to be generated and the details to be drawn.

FLATWIN Project:

• Use the button 'Browse' to select the 'FLATWIN' project to be used to generate the terrain profile.

• Use the button 'Pick >' to select the line (existing line or to draw a new line), along which terrain profile is to be generated and drawn to the current drawing. Command prompts for:

Draw a line or Select an existing line to export to FLATWIN [D/S]:

Type the option 'D' to draw a new polyline, along which terrain profile is required. Type the option 'S' to select an existing line.

For the option 'S', command prompts for:

Select the line:

Select the line, along which terrain profile is required.

For the option 'D', command prompts for:

Pick point for creating a new line:

Pick the points of the line and finish with the right button of the mouse or the key 'Return'.

Select the details of the drawing

• Plan drawing and section drawing are the available choices.
• By default, section drawing will be drawn.
• If section drawing is not required, mark the check box 'Disable section drawing'. The tab 'Layout Sections' will be disabled.
• If the plan drawing is required, mark the check box 'Enable plan drawing'. The tab 'Layout Plan' will be enabled.

Terrain profile can be calculated based on section distance or the number of sections.

• Mark the desired radio button.

Calculate by section distance:

• Mark the radio button to activate the option.
• Define the section distance at the edit field.
• The default value is 10.0m
• Based on this value, the number of sections will be displayed in the field 'Calculate by number of sections'.

Calculate by number of section:

• Mark the radio button to activate the option.
• Define the number of sections to be calculated for the selected line.
• The line will be divided into equal parts. The number of parts is equal to the number of sections defined and the length of each part will be the section distance.
• The section distance will be displayed in the field 'Calculate by section distance'.

Line length:

• The length of the line selected for terrain profile is displayed at this field.

From/To Chainage points:

• Define the parameters 'From' and 'To' chainage stations, for which terrain profile is to be generated and drawn at the respective fields.

Widths:

• Define the section width and search width.
• The search width is used to search for the terrain elevations. The obtained terrain elevations will be used to interpolate the terrain elevations along the line.

Cross-Section List:

• The section points, coordinates, etc., will be listed in this field.

Addition points can be defined using the button 'Insert'. The section points, which are not required, can be deleted.

• Mark the checkboxes of the objects, which are to be drawn along with the terrain profile.
• Define the layer name, color, and line type for the objects being drawn.

• Mark the checkboxes of the objects, which are to be drawn along with the plan.
• If symbols are to be drawn at the ends of the cross-section, mark the check box 'Use symbols in end of cross-section line'.
• Desired symbols (AutoCAD drawing blocks) can be selected using the buttons '← Symbol left side' and 'Symbol right side →'.
• Mark the check box 'Add section name and profile as symbol attribute' to activate this option.
• Define the layer name, color, and line type for the selected objects at the list 'Layer'.

Use this button to generate the terrain profile and draw the same to the current drawing according to the parameters and settings defined. Command prompts for:
