Trimble Connect for Windows does not have an integrated 2D Viewer, but 2D files can be opened in their native applications from the Trimble Connect for Windows application.

Supported 3D File Formats

Browser Windows Mobile
DGN (Version 8)
DWG 2018 (AutoCAD 2022 and below)
DXF
IFC (2x3, 4)
IFC ZIP
IGS, IGES
LandXML (Version 1.2) 1
Navisworks (.NWD & .NWC) 2
Revit 3 4 5
SKP (2021 and below)
STEP AP203 and AP214
TC ZIP
TEKLA
TRB
TFLX

Notes

Files related to Rhinoceros applications are no longer supported.6

The 3D Viewer does not work with Digital Project and CATIA formats because of changes in licensing agreements.7

  1. The LandXML support is based on the Inframodel subset/extension. Alignments, Pipe Networks, and TIN surfaces are the main primitive types supported.
  2. It is now possible to add Navisworks (.NWD & .NWC) model files to the project and view them in 3D using the Connect for Windows application. The Navisworks model viewing is released as a BETA feature. In this stage of the BETA period, the NWD & NWC file formats support plain 3D viewing only. The files cannot be used in other workflows, like for example in creating Views, ToDos or Clash checks. Also, there may be some models that are not rendered correctly or some property data may be incomplete.
  3. Revit Add-In required. Versions 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
  4. It is now possible to add Revit (.RVT) model files to the project and view them in 3D using the Trimble Connect for Windows application. Notes that this feature is not intended to replace the Trimble Connect for Revit Add-In which gives you the most control over choosing which Views get uploaded along with other upload settings. This feature offers a quick, but less controlled, way of getting Revit models into Connect without having to install the Trimble Connect for Revit Add-In.
  5. Revit Add-In required. Versions 2019, 2020 and 2021.
  6. This means that the file formats OBJ, FBX, 3DS, STL, 3DM, and SLDASM cannot be viewed using Trimble Connect 3D Viewer.
  7. As a workaround, you can export your models from Digital Project and CATIA to IFC format and then import them to Trimble Connect.

Point Cloud File Formats

Browser Windows Mobile
E57
LAS
LAZ
Potree
URL
TDX
TZF
XYZ

Notes

Point Cloud URLs must be added through the Trimble Connect for Windows application and then can be viewed on the Browser application.

Geospatial File Formats

Browser Windows Mobile
GDB1
Geospatial .zip files
JXL
KML
KMZ
SHP2

Notes

The file size limit when imported in Map Viewer is 40 MB, beyond which the files are supported in the read-only mode.

One .zip file should only have one type of geospatial files. For example, a .zip file having SHP and VCE files is not recommended.

Shape files may not be processed correctly if the coordinate system information in a .PRJ file cannot be matched to a known coordinate system.

  1. When compressed as .zip files.
  2. When compressed as .zip files.

Hello,
Is it possible to update the compatible versions for Revit and Navisworks formats with the add-in and also for direct display with the Windows application (*4)?

Many of our customers in the area of industry work with Autodesk Naviswork, Revit and Inventor. We either process our laser scanning recordings into a 3D model or only provide the cleaned point cloud as an RCS (ReCap file). It would be great if Trimble Connect could also import RCS and display them online.
