The binder in Quadri for Windows

03-09-2022 08:05

The binder in Quadri for Windows refers to a file that keeps, or binds together, a set of related Quadri models, and where the Quadri model(s) are stored locally. When creating a new model, both server and single user model, the binder is automatically created. It is important to be aware that the binder is not the same as a Quadri model. The binder is meant to be private for each user, typically having one for each project.

Several Quadri models can be linked to the same binder, but only one model is active at any time. This enables you to have multiple models open at the same time.

The Explorer displays the contents of a binder, and the Properties displays different information of the binder.

While the Quadri models contains most of the information handled in a project, the binders contain information on for example which Quadri model is active and which windows were most recently displayed.

To add/open models to the current binder in order to have multiple models open, right click the binder and click one of the options.

After inserting another model, you can right click one of the not active models in order to set it active. You can also remove or unload models in the binder. Unloading still retains the path of the model in the binder file, while removing it removes it all together.

When working on a server project you might end up with multiple worksets of the same model, in the same binder. This happens if you open your model in Quadri for Windows, and while it is loaded in the binder, you download another workset/version of the same model.

The GIF below shows an example where three models already are loaded in the binder and one of them is inserted in the binder a second time.

Sometimes you might want to open several models in the same binder deliberately, e.g. when you have different versions of the same model to compare, as you always have the possibility to view elements from several different models in the same view.

Most of the times though, this might have happened unwillingly, where you meant to receive from server. This also creates the conflict where you might have reservations in the other workset, which you in the newly downloaded workset will see as reserved by you – in another workset.

If you have downloaded multiple worksets, you should either release your reservations in the inactive workset – if you still have it open in the binder. The other solution is to contact your Quadri Server admin, who can deactivate the workset from Model Manager admin page.
