What is new in this release

  • New! Login Screen

A new login screen that is compatible with Trimble Identity Service v 4. Users must download Trimble Connect Mobile v 2.16 onto their mobile devices in order to use the HoloLens Companion QR Code for QR login. If you use an older version of TCM app you will be prompted to use TCM v 2.16

  • New! BETA Feature - Azure Spatial Anchors
Azure Spatial Anchors(ASA) is a concept that will enable users within the Mixed Reality context to perceive spaces, designate precise points of interest, and to recall those points of interest from supported devices. These precise points of interest are referred to as Spatial Anchors. ASA uses computer vision to create visual anchors and recall those anchors based on unique features in the physical environment.
How does ASA work in Trimble Connect for Hololens? There are so many applications for ASA from Multi-user experiences, Way-finding to Persisting virtual content in the real-world. In TCH, ASA is used to remember, recall and automatically align model(s) in the physical space. This TCH BETA feature allows the user to align the model in any method they choose to remember/recall an alignment using an azure spatial anchor(s). On reloading the model a second time, the TCH application will locate the spatial anchors that were established earlier and try to auto align the model in the physical space.
  • General
Many Critical Software Architecture Improvements; Improved code quality and error handling; Platform compatibility updates; General UI/UX, Bug Fixes and housekeeping.

Known Limitations and Workarounds: The following are some known limitations & workarounds for this build.

Note: BETA! Navisworks - Reminder that the Navisworks model viewing is a BETA feature: In this stage of the BETA period, the NWD & NWC file formats support plain 3D viewing only. The files cannot be used in other workflows, like for example in creating Views, ToDos or Clash checks. Also, there may be some models that are not rendered correctly or some property data may be incomplete. Please also see: Navisworks Support in Trimble Connect for Windows (BETA)

The Trimble XR10 with HoloLens 2, for those unfamiliar, is the only fully-embedded mixed-reality device in the world that is custom-built and certified for use in safety controlled environments. Trimble XR10 leverages all of the benefits of the Microsoft HoloLens 2 - a larger field of view, updated cameras and processors, flip-up visor, iris detection and eye calibration, and 10-finger hand tracking - to provide the end user with the most advanced mixed reality tools right on their job site.

Important Note for HoloLens1 Support: On August 30th, 2021 support for Trimble Connect for HoloLens 2.x compatible with Microsoft HoloLens 1 device will come to an end. Due to significant changes in functionality between Microsoft HoloLens 1 and Microsoft HoloLens 2, all releases of Trimble Connect for HoloLens 3.0 & later were developed exclusively for Microsoft HoloLens 2 and Trimble XR10 with HoloLens 2. New versions will not be compatible with Microsoft HoloLens 1 after August 30th, 2021. We will discontinue support for all versions (TCH v2.x) that run on HoloLens 1 and withdraw it from the Microsoft Store.
