The Desktop Configuration app (installed with Trimble Positions Desktop, available as a separate download for TerraFlex Desktop) can be used to configure a shared office database for multiple users. Although a multi-user configuration is more commonly addressed through a proper RDBMS configured with ODBC (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server), some customers have found that placing the Access or SQLite database (.mdb or .db) on a shared network drive provides suitable performance, especially when multi-user access is not simultaneous. However, if the user starts the Desktop Configuration app with administrator permissions (it's a prompt when starting), shared network drives are not available. This behavior is consistent across Windows apps like Notepad. Technically, running Desktop Configuration with administrator permissions is only required when accessing the ODBC configuration area. If the user needs to configure a database connection using a shared network drive, the workaround is then to run Desktop Configuration without administrator permissions.
