Shut down user access to specific features in TCC - Heads up!

Imperative to shut down user access to TCC

Trimble Connected Community (TCC), the predecessor product to Trimble WorksManager, runs on legacy infrastructure that is highly vulnerable to external risks, non-scalable to future business/ technology improvements, and unmaintenable for development. In case you are a WorksManager user who doesn’t use TCC at all, this article DOES NOT apply to you and you can safely ignore reading further. For the others, this means we have an imperative to shut down user access to TCC

Incremental/ iterative journey towards the goal

  1. In the journey towards that goal, as a first step, the access to all inactive users of TCC (users who never logged into TCC since Jan 1st, 2024) was revoked last quarter

  1. Now, as an incremental next step, we look to revoke access to specific non core features of TCC user interface that includes Contacts, Users, and Groups. In addition, the Remote Access feature in TCC will also be disabled. We encourage users to use the WorksManager Remote Access feature instead. In fact, WorksManager remote access has additional capabilities that includes support for Earthworks Operator Screen access, and Android data collectors which are not available via TCC. Effective October 15th, these features will be disabled in the TCC user interface, and hence no longer be available for use in TCC.

Key takeaway: Effective October 15th, TCC features Contacts, Users, Groups, and Remote Access will be disabled in the TCC user interface.

  1. Further, early next year - Q1 2026 (we will publish dates soon), we look to revoke complete user access to TCC which includes TCC user interface/ legacy TCC, TCC explorer and TCC Office sync capabilities. We encourage users to start actively using WorksManager file explorer in the account > devices page.

In this regard, here are the WorksManager features that were recently shipped, in progress, and in backlog

Shipped

  • You can now access file explorer from WorksManager account > devices page. Select any device, and click the 'folder' icon in the summary panel - the experience mimics the TCC file/ folder structure. The feature is available for Earthworks, GCS, Siteworks, SCS, and Groundworks, and includes file level operations - upload, download, delete, sort and search.

In progress

  • Internet Base Station Service is moving to a new technology stack. This shift will decouple IBSS from outdated TCC cloud infrastructure and make the service more reliable and scalable. We will be migrating accounts to the new stack v2 starting with customers that don’t use shared bases/ rovers, and then to customers that do use sharing. This will remove dependency on TCC user interface/ legacy TCC interface to configure and manage base stations.

  • Status - a bug fix is in progress, and the migration would resume post that.

In prioritized backlog

  • WorksManager file explorer - folder operations (ability to upload, download, delete folders with contents). With this, we intend to considerably remove dependency on TCC explorer and Office sync.

Please note: Legacy field device integration (such as GCS/SCS) with TCC Cloud will remain operational without any interruption. This article specifically relates only to user access to TCC, and NOT to field device access.
