Simplifying Base Station Sharing: Trimble WorksManager's New Feature

As we continue our transition away from the legacy TCC infrastructure, for customers who share Trimble rovers/ bases across one or more accounts or use non-Trimble rovers, we are introducing a "3rd Party Sharing" feature. You simply enable this on your correction stream to generate a single username and password. This credential can then connect up to 100 rovers.

Key Value Proposition - One base for all machines/ rovers of a project

  • Rovers from different accounts can get corrections from a base belonging to a different account (e.g., a rental or subcontractor account rover can receive corrections from a contractor account's base)
  • Any Trimble or non Trimble rover can get corrections from the same base
  • Trimble Access, and Trimble SiteVision can receive corrections from the same base as Earthworks, Siteworks, Groundworks and Roadworks

How to Enable Shared Credentials

To generate shared credentials for a base station, navigate to the Internet Base Stations tab in WorksManager. Select your specific correction stream from the list to open the right-side panel. By default, you will notice that the "3rd Party Access" status is set to "Disabled".
To activate it, simply click the pencil icon next to "3rd Party Access" to open the configuration window, and check the Enable 3rd Party Access box. The system will automatically generate a dedicated username for this stream. For the password, you can either allow the system to auto-generate one for you, or you can define a custom password by clicking the reset password link. Once you have your details set, click Done.
You will receive a success message confirming the setup, and the stream's status will officially change to "Enabled".

Connecting Your Field Solutions

Once your shared credentials are created, connecting your field solutions is a standardized process. Across all supported systems, you will configure your receiver with the following details
  • Server URL: share.ibss.trimble.com
  • Port: 2101
  • Username & Password: The shared credentials you just generated
This configuration works seamlessly across multiple field solutions, including Trimble Earthworks, Trimble Groundworks, Trimble Siteworks, GCS900, and SiteVision. For most of these systems, such as Trimble Earthworks, you simply enter these details, select the corresponding mount point from the dropdown menu, and the base will automatically connect and begin receiving data

How to Disable Access

If you ever need to revoke access, navigate back to your correction stream in the Internet Base Stations list and click the pencil icon again. Simply uncheck the "Enable 3rd Party Access" box, which will clear the fields, and then hit Done and confirm your choice. The credentials will be immediately deleted, and access will be disabled.

Important Note on IBSS Versions

Please keep in mind that this new feature is exclusively available for WorksManager accounts that are currently operating on IBSS V2. If you are unsure which version an account is running, you can enter the WorksManager account name into the Trimble IBSS Tool to verify. While the majority of our customers are already utilizing IBSS V2 today, customers using TCC based sharing are still on V1, and they will receive a separate mail that will detail the transition plan and timelines.

Here is a very important question from one of the users, and the corresponding answer. Adding here for everyone's benefit.

Question: I am using IBSS sharing and hence I am running on v1 (older IBSS stack) now. As I move to v2, will older connection history reports still be accessible?

Answer: No, you will lose access to any historical 'Connection History' data. If you do not download them before June 15th, this data will be permanently inaccessible. So, navigate to your connection history today and download any past connection reports.

The newer history data will still be accessible starting from the date of the transition.
